NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via Pine Stump – 3/09 Should be a decent weekend . <> NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA – 3/07 March 7, 2023 11:00 am We groomed north to trail 431, trail 45 to the falls, and to cut river last night. We plan to groom to holland lake, south to trout lake tonight. As of this moment we have only one groomer operational so we will do our best to keep the trails good. All the trails are wet and getting thin with the warm weather, but are still in fair condition, trail 45 has mud again where the logging has been going on but we are working to try to bring some snow back in from the edges. It is currently 30 degrees and sunny. Remember when you are on the side of any road always ride on the right side! In other news we are raffling off a a 2023 Polaris Sportsman 450 Donated by Renze Power Sports. Tickets: $100.00 each Drawing held April 22, 2023 @ 7:00pm at the Elks Lodge in Newberry 300 tickets printed If less than 125 tickets are sold then the raffle will revert to a 50/50 drawing. Tickets can be purchased from: Renze Power Sports, Halfway Lake Cottages, North Store Follow Me Outfitters, Pine Stump Restaurant, Schubach Farms Cabin Rentals, or Rich Rottier 616-550-8201. Proceeds will go to fund trail grooming equipment! Good Luck! Curfew in the Village of Newberry is 11:00pm to 7:00am. Trail 9: Groomed to trail 431. Reported as good away from town and fair near town. Logging be operations are finished and county roads 415 and 422 are now being groomed but snow is still a bit thin. Trail 498: Groomed last night. Good. Trail 45: Groomed to the falls. Fair condition. There is logging on the trail shortly after you jump on Trail 45 just past the Logging museum off of M-123. There is also be logging about 3 miles North of Skyline Road off to the right. Please use extreme caution in these areas! Both portions are being plowed and could be bumpy or rutted. Very Good in spots Trial 9/2: Groomed to Cut River. Conditions being reported as fair. We made it 81 miles.... in 17 hours!!! Even the drifts had drifts!!! I was breaking the trail and Alex was grooming behind. When we got done, I had 14 more miles than him!!! 95 miles and burned 101.3 gallons of fuel!!! Highs will be around 20. Tonight and Wednesday, a weak system brings a widespread 1 to 2 inches of snow, with lows in the single digits in the interior to 10s around the lakeshores. Highs Wednesday will be in the 30s. I figured snow was done and just needed do some final cleanup. Nope it’s snowing good again and have a few inches of fluff so far
We are open, have gas, and the trails should be really good.

We hit our west trail (8/89/88), then continued on 88 past the park and ride at M77 to 443. We ran 443 down to the bra tree, then headed back to our barn.
We will try and get our East trail(😎 and the north trail(8/888/88) today and tomorrow. There are a lot of branches and trees down throughout the area, so please be alert. As always, ride right and ride safe!

We’re almost caught up here… but it looks like another round of snow pushing is on the schedule for today! #newberry #snowphotos 
No doubt the forecast lived up to its insanity, with many locations getting over 40" of snow across the central Upper Peninsula, and 8-10 foot snow drifts to make things even more extreme. In terms of forecast verification, our forecast did hit the 80%+ accuracy threshold we strive for after each event. Our final verification was 83%, and most of the the misses were where the system shifted slightly south to give parts of the northern Lower Peninsula greater than 24", and parts of the western Upper Peninsula much less. Anything over 18" of snow is just "a lot" at this point anyways, so we aren't stressing too badly about the miss in the Lower Peninsula near the Mackinac Bridge. Lake effect zones in SW Michigan did verify, as text was featured under the forecast that a couple spots would see locally higher amounts.
Overall, this will be a storm we won't soon forget, which adds to the list of wild weather we've experienced in Michigan over the last two weeks. A new two-day record was also broken at the NWS office in Marquette of 36"+ with this blizzard, which is just one record smashed by this blizzard.
