MUNISING AREA UPDATE via Alger County Sorva – 3/8 TRAIL REPORT, Wdenesday, March 8, 2023 6:00 a.m. GREAT LATE SEASON RIDING CONTINUES! No significant changes. No new snow with trails grooming out nicely and in an overall good to very good condition. Some icy inside corners may develop throughout the day near Christmas and in the hills of Trail 419 closer to Munising. North end of Trail 7 also has icy corners. Trail 418 has some wet/icy areas East of Au Train and gravely areas near and West of Au Train. Bare roads and dirty snow near towns. Keep a close eye on trail conditions as you ride and stay right. Trail groomed out well, but the temps and sun are making everything wet and soft. Welcome to late season conditions. We will groom as long as we can, but we already have dirt starting to show in a couple areas. We don’t have our usual amount of base so the trail won’t last like it usually does. Our west winds kick up to the 30-40 mph range later tonight. Prior to that happening, a northwest wind will batter some lake effect areas with an additional 1-3" this afternoon, with pockets of 4"+ possible. As we move into Tuesday, a widespread blanket of 2-5", with pockets of 4-8" will overtake the Lake Michigan shoreline, eastern UP, and Keweenaw Peninsula. Temperature difference between water and air, plus adequate lift will fuel lake effect all the way through Wednesday morning. Additionally, we have a clipper moving through on Tuesday that will bring isolated pockets of 1-3" to the east side. Most locations should still be beneath an inch, however, too many variables are in play to not mention it.
Travel will be impacted along and west of US-131, with minor travel impacts all the way over to the US-127 corridor (I-75 north of Grayling). The clipper will be swinging through with the initial push of gusty winds after midnight tonight through 10 am Tuesday morning.
