NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via Pine Stump – 3/03 It’s going to be another good weekend of riding!! <> NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA – 3/02 March 2, 2023 We groomed north to holland lake, and cut river last night. We plan to groom to trout lake, noter to trail 431 and the falls tonight. We are down one groomer, currently waiting for parts that are hopefully going to be here today. It is currently 25 degrees and cloudy, it snowed about an inch last night. In other news we are raffling off a a 2023 Polaris Sportsman 450 Donated by Renze Power Sports. Tickets can be purchased from: Renze Power Sports, Halfway Lake Cottages, North Store Follow Me Outfitters, Pine Stump Restaurant, Schubach Farms Cabin Rentals, or Proceeds will go to fund trail grooming equipment! Good Luck! Trail 9: Groomed to holland lake and back. Reported as very good. Logging be operations are finished and county roads 415 and 422 are now being groomed but snow is still a bit thin. very good. Trail 498: Groomed last night. Very Good. Trail 45: Did not Groom to the falls last night, because of mechanical issues with groomer. very Good. There is logging on the trail shortly after you jump on Trail 45 just past the Logging museum off of M-123. There is also be logging about 3 miles North of Skyline Road off to the right. Please use extreme caution in these areas! Both portions are being plowed and could be bumpy or rutted. Very Good in spots Trial 9/2: Groomed last night to cut river. Conditions being reported as very good. Thank you to all the team at the groomers barn who puts in countless hours to keep the system groomed and maintenance on the machines! I do not know how many inches of snowfall we have had with this current storm, but drifts are from 5 to 10 feet around my house and driveway! I'd advice to stay off road so county plow trucks can do their job without risk of someone stuck on highway, which report big truck near Rivermouth stuck on M123 in snow drift. I hope everyone is staying safe and indoors. It took about 35 minutes to dig out far enough for our dog to go out... and right back in!!! I put a shovel in the snow on top of where our generator is...in case power goes out and it don't start I will be able to find it. Stay safe, ride right, and for now, bench race!!!

14 degrees this morning and the blizzard is still going strong! Its been 24 hrs. straight and they are saying another 24 before it lets up. Its crazy out der folks! I`ve got drifts at least 6` high and I`ve got one door open enough to even get outa my house! I`ve lived in da yoop for almost 26 yrs. and can`t remember anything like this. As far as the trails go.....I think its gonna be another day or two before we can get out.....I`m actually thinking not until Wednesday.....but we WILL be out as soon as we can. The trails will probably be a blast right now for all you drift busters but you groomed trail riders will have to wait a couple days till we can get to it. Bout all I got for now. If you do head out for a ride today be mindful of possible blown down trees and crazy drifting and be safe!

Its Sunday afternoon, 5pm, and a down right blizzard out der. I don`t remember seeing a storm this bad in a long time. Thought I would jump on here real quick cause social media is going crazy thinking we are done grooming. This is far from the truth! We are done on the Falls trail #45 and the swamp on trail #8 just south of town cause that last warm up really put a hurtin on them. The warmer swamp water really started to flow cause of the melt and caused a lot of open spots. We WILL NOT risk swamping a machine! We are gonna wait out this blizzard and get back at it on all the other trails. This may not be until Tuesday or even Wednesday as this is supposed to last until Monday night or early Tuesday morning. We have to dig ourselves out too!!!! Sooooo....please be patient. I will jump on here tomorrow morning and give ya`ll an update.

Blizzard Warnings have moved South to include Leelanau, Emmet, Cheboygan, Southeastn Chippewa, Mackinac Island/Bois Blanc, Beaver Island. Ice Storm Warnings have moved South to include Wexford, Missaukee, Oscoda, Alcona and Alpena Counties. Winter Weather Advisories now include Clare, Osceola Counties.
The warm line is farther South keeping higher totals North. Winds continue to pick up along with the snow tonight.

Phase 2 of the Winter Storm is kicking off! This will bring heavy snow and gusty winds still for the U.P. and Tip of the Mitt. The icing area we have talked about for the last few days landed where we thought it would. Leelanau down to Wexford and Northeast. These areas could see up to .5" of ice through today and tonight with isolated higher amounts. Winds will continue to gust upwards of 40-50mph. The snow totals map you see is on top of what you have already seen.
Don't be fooled, the lull from the initial burst to the second part is the system nearing. The second phase will be the worst with this storm. This afternoon - Monday morning.

A dangerous ice storm will begin tonight for portions of northern lower Michigan. The heaviest ice accretion takes aim in a localized area from Traverse City to Gaylord to Atlanta with over 0.50" of ice expected. Around this area, a zone of significant icing between 0.25' to 0.50" is expected - which is still enough to take down tree limbs and create power outages. The worst of the icing will be tonight into Monday morning, and then we deal with high winds moving in Monday morning as well which will only exaggerate the effects of this event.
