SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 02/28 This is proof right here that we are our own worst critics lol… Steve sent me this report right after I posted on what I saw on 8 and the city trails. Granted, 49 from the Soo to Kinross is a whole different animal with lots of open areas, prone to drifts (I love those areas!) Here’s what he had to say- We had a list of signs that needed attention and decided we were going to fix them tonight. Little did we know that would be our biggest accomplishment of the evening. We went out in high winds and encountered heavy drifting before we even got out of town. The trails have seen lots of traffic with the drifts packed down and rougher than rough. We turned around in Kinross to head back north and couldn’t believe what we seen. The trails we just groomed were even more drifted than when we started. We had high winds and heavy snow on most of the return trip. It was a grueling night in the cab as we bounced around all night long. At times, we were guessing where we thought the trail was. Visibility was poor all the way back. Good news is we are getting more snow. Bad news is we are going to need a little time to get the trails back in order. “Tonight Passenger Chris and I headed out on Trail 49 like we do every Monday night.
We did what we could knocking them down and getting the trail somewhat back to level.

Good morning all!
Here in the Soo at my place right off of trail 8, we’ve only received 8” or so of snow from this storm since 10 AM yesterday. Snow is ongoing, so we’ll see any we end up with.
The wind and the drifting are the bigger story, at least here. I know that areas just south and west received more snow.
Please check in with what you’re seeing and where you are at so that we have an idea how much snow is out there in our surrounding areas.
Power has stayed on here, thankfully, but MANY businesses are closed as it’s unsafe for their staff to travel.
I am certain there are downed trees on the trails. We are not advising going out, but if you do, be safe and please let us know what you’re seeing.

Only around 8” of new snow today in the Soo. Word is we’ll get more tomorrow than today.
For once, we’re ok with being on the lower end of the totals. That’s easier on our first responders, our community, and our volunteers which means we can work on clean up sooner.
