SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 02/28
This is proof right here that we are our own worst critics lol… Steve sent me this report right after I posted on what I saw on 8 and the city trails. Granted, 49 from the Soo to Kinross is a whole different animal with lots of open areas, prone to drifts (I love those areas!) Here’s what he had to say- “Tonight Passenger Chris and I headed out on Trail 49 like we do every Monday night.
We had a list of signs that needed attention and decided we were going to fix them tonight.
Little did we know that would be our biggest accomplishment of the evening.
We went out in high winds and encountered heavy drifting before we even got out of town. The trails have seen lots of traffic with the drifts packed down and rougher than rough. We did what we could knocking them down and getting the trail somewhat back to level.
We turned around in Kinross to head back north and couldn’t believe what we seen. The trails we just groomed were even more drifted than when we started.
We had high winds and heavy snow on most of the return trip. It was a grueling night in the cab as we bounced around all night long.
At times, we were guessing where we thought the trail was. Visibility was poor all the way back.
Good news is we are getting more snow. Bad news is we are going to need a little time to get the trails back in order. Hope you enjoy the photos.
Steve Lawson”
Have no fear, we’ll be out taming them where needed! ❄️❄️❄️

It has been a great season so far. For the most part, trails are in excellent condition but we do still have a few problem areas. To see what's been happening since the trails opened and for complete up to date information, please follow us on facebook.
SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 1/27/26 Things are so good around here that I actually have no significant updates to share LOL. A little snow here and there on top of an absolutely incredible base is making for the best riding in our area in years, honestly. Even with one machine still down, our operators have things in excellent shape! We hope you’ll be able to be here next week for race week, and for the big race on Saturday, Feb 7th! We will have a booth in the brand new vendor pavilion, and we hope to see you there at the International 500 Snowmobile Race!! 🏁 ❄️🥶 #soo#soo0127 #snowphotos... See MoreSee Less
Winds will gust 30-40mph at times blowing around new slow and fluffy snow already on the ground. Expect ground blizzards at times (wind driven, brief, white outs). ... See MoreSee Less

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Another quickly-moving Clipper will bring a round of widespread, light snow beginning this evening, followed by lingering lake effect snow across the NW wind snow belts for Tuesday. Totals of an inch or less are expected for most of the UP, but where lake effect snow occurs, up to 2-5in of snow is possible tonight through Tuesday evening. As winds pick up early Tuesday, patchy blowing snow may contribute to reduced visibility in the NW wind snow belts.
