SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 02/27 Good morning all! Groomer Pete was out on the city trails last night. “I groomed the City trails tonight. Tonight I realized it was light out when I started at 6 pm. A sobering reminder that the winter is in its twilight. It’s my third groom of the week. Do you ever feel like you live in a groomer? Overall, I think our entire trails system is great. I think I rode all of them this week on my sled, and I couldn’t be more pleased. It’s always refreshing to come home to my home trails after a long ride. It’s almost a guarantee that two or more groomers are out every night. The Chippewa trails were in good shape this weekend too, so props to them for their work. I’d like to take a moment to appreciate the hard work of some people that get little to no recognition for keeping this circus moving. Mike our groomer coordinator, Dave the Raco regional assistant director of supervising the groomers to support the groomer coordinator, Tom our president, and our groomer maintenance guy Buck. Buck works nearly full time all year on the 4 machines and the barn. Tool management, parts ordering, repairs, maintenance, getting fuel delivered, ordering propane fills, welding……the list of things Buck does could go on for pages. Without those four guys, the hooligan groomers would probably self destruct. Enjoy the trails while they are good!” More snow if on the way tonight with the possibility of some freezing rain/ice. We’ll update on how that turns out but shouldn’t really hurt us as the trails are in great shape. Ride safe!❄️❄️❄️ <> SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 02/25 Wow! What a difference it makes when there is snow in the northern lower and across the UP! Just got back from a ride to Paradise and the trails were excellent on the way out AND back! The swamp south of Paradise has some water spots and mud, to be expected but their part of 8 and 452 was awesome! Chippewa Snowchasers part of 8 was also awesome, as were our parts of 8 and 889! Lower traffic and recent snow have things in great shape here in the EUP! Headed out to groom now. Gotta pay to play! I’ll report when I get back. Good evening!
Here in the Soo, the blizzard is winding down. For us, it wasn’t so much the snow as it was the wind. I still only show about a foot total new snow out of this storm from 10 AM yesterday until now, but the drifts are nuts.
A few of us took a ride to Bay Mills Resort & Casino for dinner and to check out trail 8. Thank you to Zoey for the great service!!
We opted to take the shoulder of 6 mile from Deland to the resort as we know that the farm field drifts on 8 west of Brimley are likely very deep and visibility was poor when we got out there. The bay was nearly impossible to see as well.
Trail 8 from the Soo to Brimley is tunneled in spots due to people riding the middle to avoid the drifts. I personally lover smashing the drifts so I was in heaven on the outer edges😅
Surprisingly, we saw no downed trees or branches, which is pretty incredible!
I’m hearing that groomers will likely roll out tomorrow morning on the first runs since the storm started.
Hopefully, most businesses will be able reopen tomorrow, and we’ll get back to normal in short order.

Good morning all!
Here in the Soo at my place right off of trail 8, we’ve only received 8” or so of snow from this storm since 10 AM yesterday. Snow is ongoing, so we’ll see any we end up with.
The wind and the drifting are the bigger story, at least here. I know that areas just south and west received more snow.
Please check in with what you’re seeing and where you are at so that we have an idea how much snow is out there in our surrounding areas.
Power has stayed on here, thankfully, but MANY businesses are closed as it’s unsafe for their staff to travel.
I am certain there are downed trees on the trails. We are not advising going out, but if you do, be safe and please let us know what you’re seeing.

For once, we’re ok with being on the lower end of the totals. That’s easier on our first responders, our community, and our volunteers which means we can work on clean up sooner.
