MUNISING AREA UPDATE via Alger County Sorva – 2/20
TRAIL REPORT, Monday, February 20, 2023 6:00 a.m.
DUSTING OF SNOW AND ICY AREAS!
No real changes yet, overall most of our main trails are in a good condition. Trails are hard and icy in areas so be careful in the corners especially. On Trail 418 from just East of AuTrain West to Trail 417 South the base is icy, gone in sections and gravely. The remainder of our Trails have a hard, fairly flat base with a thin layer of sugary snow on top. Heavy snow in the forecast so conditions should be improving. Keep a close eye on trail conditions as you ride and stay right. Stay tuned for updates!

MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails – 2/17
We were able to get a full groom in tonight. That being said, much of the trail is very icy, I was not able to get good results tonight, and much of the trail is still going to be rough. Not terribly rough, but there will be some chatter bumps, many corners will be bumpy due to lack of fresh snow and the trail being mostly ice. We can’t groom ice. However, sections of the trail have received some fresh snow tonight while I was grooming. The Chatham area had 3" of fresh snow to work into the trail tonight, and it was still snowing when I got done. Some drifting is going on as well, and will add to the bumps during the day. There are a few of the problem water areas that aren’t frozen back up yet after the warm weather and rain. More than likely, they won’t effect a snowmobile, but the weight of the groomer broke through some of them. Overall, the trail is in better shape than I expected after the weather we just had. Is the trail rideable? Yes, very much. Are there bare spots? Yes, but not many and they are avoidable. Is it smooth? Some areas yes, other areas, no. I will recommend, if you have ice scratches, I would use them, if you don’t have them, it would be a good thing to consider buying if you plan on riding any trail here in the U.P. Ice is everywhere, so prepare properly, and don’t expect perfect trails, take it slower than normal, and enjoy what we have, it’s all we have for now. Do your snow, dance, ride right, have fun, and stay safe out there.

MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails >> Short run today to make sure our east end is smooth and conditions couldn’t be better. Possibly making one more full run before the end of season to make sure we are right on track to finish the season out. Reports have been coming in that the trail is pretty smooth. Grooming will end, but the entire trail will be open through the 31st. Private land closes across the state on the 1st of April, so feel free to keep riding, but please respect private property as land use permits do not allow clubs to keep the trail open. WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Good morning everyone. Michigan is going to showcase all seasons for today, March 26th, 2026. ... #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyGood morning everyone. Michigan is going to showcase all seasons for today, March 26th, 2026. If you're heading north of M-55, a wintry mix will greet you. Snow totals of an inch, perhaps more will be possible, and a snow map will be out in a bit to showcase totals on a statewide basis. Meanwhile, summer is here temporarily as showers and storms move in by late afternoon south of Grand Rapids and Flint. High temperatures will be in the 60s, and even low-70s, especially south of I-94. More warmth means more fuel for storms though, so on a day like today, you should be rooting against warmer high temperatures to avoid severe weather. Speaking of temperatures, just an insane gradient from north to south. High temperatures in the low-20s for the Keweenaw Peninsula, while areas just south of the Michigan state line jump to near 80°F. Precipitation will start early up north, while southern Michigan doesn't start seeing shower activity until afternoon. More details to come in a bit on our severe weather, but the peak timing along and south of I-94 for severe weather will be after 3 pm EDT. Main severe weather hazard today will be very large hail, so it's probably a good idea to protect your valuables today if you're in the southern two rows of counties, just out of an abundance of caution. Bare with us today, it's a lot of information, but we've got you covered from beginning to end.
If you're new to Michigan Storm Chasers, follow us on Facebook, YouTube, X, or Twitch TV, for live severe weather coverage once the first warning is issued in the state.
