Newberry Trail Report – 02/16

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via Gene’s Tahquamenon General Store – 2/16

Thought I’d update on our conditions. Are you still planning on coming up this weekend. President’s weekend is around the corner. People have called curious about if things are down to dirt. Nope!

Gene’s Tahquamenon General Store
Just had 5 guys came in ..Asked how’s the trails. Their opinion is not that bad.

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA – 2/15

Update:

Temps have steadily fallen all day. Currently its is about 20 degrees with a wind chill of 10. Groomer is out headed north to Holland Lake. Be cautious if you do ride as water holes may opened back up and other hazards could be exposed from melting snow. Be safe and ride right..

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via Pine Stump – 2/14

Well here’s my speech for the day since everyone keeps asking
Yeah it got warm for a couple days

Yes it rained over night

The snow isn’t all gone

I don’t have time to ride the trails so I can’t answer how they are

We had a hell of a base this way and good snow before this
Here’s 2 pictures one from Sunday and one from today
I don’t see a huge difference after the rain out front.
It’s going to be like riding in mid March. Towns are probably bad. Things are probably better up this way

It’s going to cool down tonight and this stuff will be hard. If it’s cold Groomers will go out

If you like banging a couple hundred miles a day or more you probably won’t like it

If you want to go pick around and explore you will probably be ok
All I can show is these two pictures and you can be the judge. It’s not the trail but it will show how much we lost in general
We have parking out back for those who want to go riding and avoid town

If everyone gets scared and don’t come I’ll take advantage of it and go for a ride 🙂

I just told a guy worse case there are many things you could do if you don’t like the sledding. I can recommend some nice places and businesses to Visit if you come up this weekend 🙂

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA – 2/15

Due to the warm temps and rain we will not be out grooming until further notice. We did not loose all of our snow and temps are suppose to fall all day and through tomorrow. If you would like to come up and ride then we suggest trailering north. Be cautious if you do ride as water holes may opened backup and other hazards could be exposed from melting snow. Plowed dirt roads are ice covered and very slick. As soon as we have more details on trial conditions we will let everyone know. In the mean time start dancing.

Had to do some work on both drifty areas, deep, nasty, outta hand, alot closer to flat and widened now. 😉
Got up and back alone, all turned out very pretty!' MOSTY Ribbon 🥰
I'll be in this hood a bit, heading back down across the McMillan leg then back to the barn.

Comment on Facebook

Have never ridden the trails around Marquette, Munising,Grandmarais and looking to do so the 26th-29th.... where is a great place to stay close to trail access.... normally ride Ontanagon thru western UP but worried about being lots of water running on trails

Jeff Renney yup we missed it

Is the powder riding done because snow is compacted now

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Final snowfall totals have been released from our blizzard of March 15th-17th, 2026 here in Michigan. Do note, some locations are approximated due to data gaps in the Upper Peninsula..... #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyFinal snowfall totals have been released from our blizzard of March 15th-17th, 2026 here in Michigan. Do note, some locations are approximated due to data gaps in the Upper Peninsula.

No doubt the forecast lived up to its insanity, with many locations getting over 40" of snow across the central Upper Peninsula, and 8-10 foot snow drifts to make things even more extreme. In terms of forecast verification, our forecast did hit the 80%+ accuracy threshold we strive for after each event. Our final verification was 83%, and most of the the misses were where the system shifted slightly south to give parts of the northern Lower Peninsula greater than 24", and parts of the western Upper Peninsula much less. Anything over 18" of snow is just "a lot" at this point anyways, so we aren't stressing too badly about the miss in the Lower Peninsula near the Mackinac Bridge. Lake effect zones in SW Michigan did verify, as text was featured under the forecast that a couple spots would see locally higher amounts.

Overall, this will be a storm we won't soon forget, which adds to the list of wild weather we've experienced in Michigan over the last two weeks. If you have any additional snowfall reports to add to the list that are not affected by drifting, drop them in the comments below here on X or Facebook. A new two-day record was also broken at the NWS office in Marquette of 36"+ with this blizzard, which is just one record smashed by this blizzard.

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via Pine Stump >> After a couple days of plowing I’m making progress!!!
Lots almost done still some big drifts to dig out!!!
I’m guessing we got between 30and 36 inches out of the storm
A lot of 4-6 foot drifts. I spotted a 8ft drift hiding
Everyone be careful and have fun. This was going to be a busy week getting ready for the vintage show without a blizzard!!! #newberry #snowphotos
