Warning: There is ice under the snow, please be careful.
We will be grooming today on Trail #9 to the Falls
It’s snowing we have about 4 new inches on the ground around town, and more as you head north with more coming!!
Trail in town is in poor condition.
Trail 9 north to Pine Stump has a 1 – 4 inch base and is in poor to fair condition, more snow as you go north and west.
Trail 45 has a 1 – 3 inch base with more as you go north, and is icy. The trail is starting to freeze with Highs in the 20s and Lows in the teens, .
The Newberry trail 9 to Rexton is in poor condition with a 1 – 3 inch base, please watch for the water hole north of Borgstrom road in Hemlock Ridge. From Rexton south to the wooden bridge 473 to Epoufette is rough from logging and lack of snow. The deer are out and moving so please watch for them. SNOW GAUGE REPORT: The snow has settled to a comfortable base of 4 inches over most of the Island. Snow is in the forecast for the rest of today and into the weekend.
SNOWMOBILING FANS: Ice in the bays appears to be holding up and building with each new cold day. The International Ice Bridge to Canada is still scheduled to go in January 14, 2011. Keep watching here for updates!
The Snowmobile Trails are still officially closed. The groomers need more snow for a base. Rocks and boulders dot every trail at this time.
CROSS COUNTRY SKIING FANS: The Rainbow X-Country Ski Trail needs to be re-groomed. All trails are OPEN for skiiers but not groomed as of this posting. (1/6/2011)
SNOWSHOEING FANS: All trails are open for snowshoeing. But for the most part, a good pair of snow boots are all you need to get out and enjoy the trails. With the base standing at 4 inches snowshoes may be more cumbersome than helpful.
ICE SKATING FANS: The local rink is open and waiting! Grab your skates, a thermos of hot cocoa and head down to the Townhall. The ice is slick and fast!
