Cadillac Area Trail Report – 01/12

The groomers are back out there again this morning as temperatures hover around freezing. Al Green, our Trail Coordinator, was one of the groomers and has turned in the following report:

‘Just come in from grooming. Jack and Karl were also out this am.

The forest roads are good with only a few soft wet spots. The narrow trails in the wooded areas have several water holes and are only fair.

Overall I would say our trails are good. Very few riders out this morning.’

To better access the forest trails, you’ll want to use one of the Staging Areas below:

33 Rd Staging Area–S of M-55–approx.. 3 miles west of Cadillac on M-55 (watch for signs)

Caberfae Staging Area–approx.. 12 miles west of Cadillac on M-55 (watch for signs)

Boon Staging Area–park in plowed area south of Boon Grocery

Note: The porta-a-johns were removed from our staging areas today as our contracts on them expired 3-15-13.

Lake Gogebic Trail Report – 01/12

What a difference a few days can make…a 50 degree difference from Wednesday to Saturday! A bit warmer than we would like to see for good trail conditions, however it is supposed to drop back into the teens and twenties for highs this week and lows into the single digits…perfect temps for good grooming. Snow is in our forecast for almost every day once again so any damage the warmer temps from the last two days did should be repaired in no time.

I got to say it got a bit crazy up here this last weekend. There were lots of reports of snowmobilers being everywhere they shouldn’t be – meaning off the marked trails, in private yards, etc. Please, please, please don’t do this. It really does jeopardize our trail easements and can cause all sorts of problems for all snowmobilers, including the ones that are heeding the signs.

I’ve been requested by law enforcement to mention that it is not legal to ride on any railroad tracks, most especially the tracks that run through Merriweather and Bergland. Stay on marked trails only, for your safety as well as others.

That’s all for now from Carolyn at the Hoop. I will keep you posted as often as conditions change. For additional information about the Lake Gogebic area we invite you to visit the only official website of the Lake Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce at www.LakeGogebicArea.com or call us at 1-888-464-3242 (888-GOGEBIC). From all of us here at Lake Gogebic have a great ride as well as a safe ride.
