MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails >> 02/23
Trail was ate up after the warm day and heavy traffic, but laid back smooth. Low traffic volume at night should help for today, but with the warm weather this week, trails will get rough quicker than normal. I don’t anticipate losing much base, but the makeup of the snow will change as it thaws and refreezes. Check your carbides as corners may get icy. We are also looking for donations of salsa as one of our local supporters leaves us bags of chips for snacks on the trail!🤣 Very greatly appreciated!😉 remember to ride right, lead right, and ride safe!

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> A cold front will push through this afternoon and evening bringing gusty northwest wind of 25-35 mph near Lake Superior and over the Keweenaw. Light snow is possible south of an Iron Mountain to Escanaba line but any accumulation will be very light. GWINN AREA UPDATE via Forsyth Snowmobile and ATV Club >> Trail update for Gwinn area, Central Upper Peninsula. Our town is in need of snow, took a ride East over towards Alger County and they definitely have more snow over that way. Buckhorn area was smooth all the way down south and across over to Big Springs area. Big Springs area north had some small rocks on the trail and once we got by the Jack Pine Trails were good again. Came through shingleton and quite the snow storm at 6:00 on Saturday evening. Unfortunately the snow didn't come to our town. Additional snowfall of up to an inch in the west and 1 to 3 inches in the east can be expected. Uncertainty exists primarily in our trace-1" category which extends from Frankfort and Alpena south to I-96/I-69. The clipper moving through today may produce a quick squall of rain & snow with minimal accumulation some time beyond 1 pm EST, but models haven't determined if this band will solidify or not. If it does, the chance for a rain/snow mix exists in areas highlighted in the pink dashed box. This rain/snow mix would only be today. Any snow on Sunday will be lake effect off of Lake Superior, hence why our highest totals of 4-8" are located east of Munising over to Paradise.
