Cadillac Area Trail Report – 01/06

January 6, 2015 – UPDATE: Checkout the following picture sent this evening by our groomer covering the southern portion of our system. A special thanks to our groomers for sending these pictures to us for up-the-minute trail reports. Be sure to let them know you appreciate their efforts. They are all VOLUNTEERS.

January 5, 2015

Condition: Fair – UPDATE: 7:20 p.m. Just heard from our President. He has been out today on Trail 35 headed toward Hobart when he had mechanical problems and could’t complete his run. He reports most of the trails have a light coating of snow. There is an ice base in some areas and dirt/gravel in others. We really need some packy snow as most of the snow we have received so far is light and fluffy and isn’t packing.

We started panning this morning with all three tractors. Groomers will be staying off the White Pine at this point.

We picked up a couple more inches yesterday so it is beginning to look like winter around here finally. If you are out there sledding be watching for the groomers.

January 4

Condition: Fair – Update 2:30 p.m.: Just received a call confirming that trail conditions have improved over yesterday on trails north of Hoxeyville. There are lots of sleds out today and they are doing a great job packing the trails. Snow is thinner south of Hoxeyville. White Pine trail is likely to be marginal with lots of drifts. Probably best to stay off of it at this point. Please respect the 4 inch minimum requested by the State Park folks before riding the White Pine. Not enough snow to groom yet.

We picked up 3.5 to 4 inches in the last 24 hours which has made a significant improvement in trail conditions. The coverage in the non-forest area is starting to accumulate as well. The snow guage in the Cadillac West area 2 miles north of the 33 Rd. staging area is showing 7 inches this morning. No word on grooming operations yet.

Grayling Trail Report – Fay’s Motel – 01/06

Greetings Eager Sledders,

We got a whopping 4′ out of the weekend system that went through and an additional mind boggling 2′ of LES Sunday night, which triggered two expeditionary panning runs on Monday, one to Fredericanville and one to Lovells. First of the season panning runs are a necessary evil and both turned out to be productive. The decision to go was based on the forecast and what’s on the ground, what’s on the ground didn’t change much, but the forecast sure took a left turn as far as snow goes. If we don’t get additional inches out of the Lake Effect Guns, which doesn’t look good for us as most of that snow has missed us to the North, unfortunately, we are going to be stuck in the Poor to Fair rating for awhile.

Wish we had better news to report, but as we say ‘ it is what it is ‘ , and there’s not much we can do but have another one. Grilled Spam sandwich that is.

Ride Often and Please Be Safe,
Keith, Sandy and The Girls

At Fay’s Motel enjoy direct access to the Grayling Area snowmobile trails.
