Lake Gogebic Trail Report – 01/07

January 7th, 2016 – Finally, the forecast is calling for more normal winter weather! Snow is in the forecast, starting Wednesday, for each day for the next 2 weeks (at this time). No big storms predicted at this time, but we know from experience how quickly that can change. Bitter cold temps coming by Sunday with only single digits for highs – this is very good as we need these temps to freeze up any wet areas on the trails. However, if you are in the area take precautions against frostbite and always ride with a buddy. Cross your fingers that this all means winter has finally arrived in big snow country.

With many of the trails in poor condition at this point you might like to look to the “un-plowed Forest Service roads” for some riding. You may have to trailer to them but you may also save yourself some wet rides to get to them otherwise. Check in at the Ironwood, Watersmeet or Ontonagon Forest Service building to get more info on where you can legally ride.

We received about 3-inches of new snow last night, presently snowing, approx. 3-inches expected on Friday with another 3 on Saturday. I will keep you posted with any updates on the weather and on the trails.

That’s all for now from Carolyn at the Hoop. For additional information about the Lake Gogebic area please visit the chamber website at www.LakeGogebicArea.com or call us at 1-888-464-3242 (888-GOGEBIC).
