Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 02/27

It’s a sunny Saturday morning at 27 degrees.

Sled traffic thru Frederic yesterday was much slower than I thought it would be but I had a few in that had rode here from lewistons and talked to a couple other friends that were riding over there and the common thing among all of them was that there was a lot more snow over that way.

Also had people stopping in that were either on their way back or to the u.p. I got here about 8 this morning and there were sleds already riding into town and I have seen about ten so far. Its supposed to get warmer yet today so that’s not good but I took pictures of trail crossings up here this morning and they really do look surprisingly good.

I still had reports of both good and bad spots yesterday. Who knows if we can keep going past this weekend. – http://frederic-mi.com/sunny-saturday-27-degrees/

Lake Gogebic Trail Report – 02/26

February 26th, 2016

GREAT NEWS – We now have 3 groomers operating once again!!! Although the temperature is a bit high for grooming we are heading out where we can (the areas that will see the least amount of sun) and the expected temps for tonight and tomorrow night look cold enough for overnight grooming.

The high for Saturday is still going to be way too warm for daytime grooming (44 at last count). Sunday is calling for a cold down with snow expected to bring upwards of approx. 6-inches over Sunday and Monday.

Most of next week looks good temperature wise and even into next weekend. However, this next 10 days may be your last chance to do some riding as the long term forecast is calling for a warm up into the second week of March. Guess we’ll have to wait and see – who knows? Maybe we’ll get one of those Alberta Clippers we love to get. Overall trail conditions will run about fair – warm weather coupled with the mechanical problems haven’t helped too much.

VERY IMPORTANT -We want to remind all to be sure to exit the lake at the Bergland Dock – DO NOT RIDE BEYOND THIS POINT. We think some of you may have mistaken the cell tower with its red flashing light in the distance as a spot to ride to – which will take you right to the dam.

They may still be trucking logs out over a portion of Trail 102 and 13 South, so continue to watch out for logging trucks and always give them the right of way for your safety and for the privilege of riding on the logging company’s property.
Please ride safe! That’s all for now from Carolyn at the Hoop.
