Paradise Area Trail Report – 01/22

January 22, 2023

24 degrees this morning and cloudy. No new snow in the last couple of days and I don`t see much coming in the forecast for the next few days either….bummer…..we could use some for sure. I`m heading out the door to go grooming so here`s a quick update…..

Groomer Mike C. ran the Pine Stump trail #8 yesterday and called it good. There still is a few thin spots but its looking better every day. He`s gonna run it again today.

Groomer Mike H. ran the Point trails #452 & #453 yesterday also and said the same. We are gonna hit those trails again today.
I am heading south on trail #8 this morning. I will skip the swamp again but we are planning a recon trip thru there for Tuesday.

Groomer Kevin is gonna run the Falls trail #45 today also.

So……there ya have it. We are busting our butts to get all trails in great shape….just for you! Sure could use some more snow tho so do your best snow dances!

Remember……Ride Right…..Ride Safe, so you can come back and do it all over again!!!!!

LET `ER SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Groomer Chris

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA Tahquamenon Area Snowmobile Association >> So being our four door is in for a well needed nap, plugged in and warm, think we should take our 2 door Sport Coupe out for a spin up 9?
9 o'clock
Second stop sign out, 10.3 tonight
I can tell you there are nights now and then I'd like to go out back there and have a discussion with our little drag about what we're supposed to be doing with a Ball Pean hammer, thank your Ribbons for that.
So far, very little wear and tear, get to focus on improving, not repairing, and the drag and I are now getting along, keep you posted.
Oh, we're at 100% for getting outta the way so far! 🥰 Thank You!
11:04pm. In and outta North Store Wolf Inn, took the time to cut a limb up, on the exit end, and a leaning tree at the exit on I75 there crossing back to the Windy Corners intersection that have been bugging us awhile. That trail Report is I love when it turns out like it did, and we can do that for them. 😊
Turned right towards Holland Lake, this section seems to be where my phone jams up, it is after 11 on a Monday , as I said earlier, 9 was pretty nice when we arrived, even better when we leave, I'm just going to make tracks for a hunk of time now, turn up the radio, become one with Tucker, don't fret 😉
Meant to tell you, snowing pretty good now and winds have kicked up, drifting, getting interesting. #newberry #snowphotos

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Lake effect snow continues today, stops, then resumes in intensity overnight into Tuesday, January 26th and 27th, 2026.
Discussion
Our west winds kick up to the 30-40 mph range later tonight. Prior to that happening, a northwest wind will batter some lake effect areas with an additional 1-3" this afternoon, with pockets of 4"+ possible. As we move into Tuesday, a widespread blanket of 2-5", with pockets of 4-8" will overtake the Lake Michigan shoreline, eastern UP, and Keweenaw Peninsula. Temperature difference between water and air, plus adequate lift will fuel lake effect all the way through Wednesday morning. Additionally, we have a clipper moving through on Tuesday that will bring isolated pockets of 1-3" to the east side. Most locations should still be beneath an inch, however, too many variables are in play to not mention it.
Travel will be impacted along and west of US-131, with minor travel impacts all the way over to the US-127 corridor (I-75 north of Grayling). The clipper will be swinging through with the initial push of gusty winds after midnight tonight through 10 am Tuesday morning. Again, this will be for totals starting at noon today, and lasting through 8 am EST Wednesday, with most of the snow falling throughout the entire day Tuesday. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyLake effect snow continues today, stops, then resumes in intensity overnight into Tuesday, January 26th and 27th, 2026.

Sault Ste. Marie Trail Report – 01/21

SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 01/21

🚨🚨1/21 Trail 49 closure update🚨🚨

Good evening!

The good, the bad, and the downright UGLY.

3 of us took sleds down the closed part of 49 today from the Soo to Kinross. We saw a decent amount of traffic for a closed trail.
The good news is that we made it just fine and the beaver pond shows little to no water. It wasn’t nearly as whooped out as I thought it would be, considering we haven’t been able to groom it. Of course, we know traffic has been lighter because it’s closed too.

The bad is that we still cannot get a groomer through there. The water is so random this year and in spots that I have never seen it seeping through before. We had one hole we had to “jet ski” across and others had narrow spots around.

The ugly is that, it is in such rough shape with ice chunks and open water and mud that it’s hard to imagine we will be able to groom it at all this season if we don’t get a long spell of cold temps and more snow.

We stopped at The Well Diggers Ass and had an AWESOME lunch. Thank you Michelle and crew for supporting us!
We took 472 west to 480 to 8 home and it was in good shape except the 2 water holes just east of 480 on 472. Pics of those below too.

I will talk with our club president and the DNR for their input in 49 and will keep you posted.

Wish I had better news on 49🙁

Ride safe all! ❄️❄️❄️

Good evening! It sure is way more fun when I can share good news! We got a solid snowfall of anywhere from 7-12” depending on the area. And…. It’s cold🙌🏼
Steve and Nathan were out on the city trails tonight and they shaped up beautifully! Here’s what Steve had to say-
“Groomer Nathan and I went out tonight and groomed the city trail system.
We had 8 or 9 inches of fresh snow to work with. It was certainly a winter wonderland.
Trail conditions were great. We were able to pull snow into a lot of the low spots. The water hole near the tunnel is froze and snow covered. We seen almost no water at all on the trails tonight.
We groomed everything within the city limits with the exception of the stretch from Seymour Rd to the casino due to 2 water holes behind Kewadin.
Hope you enjoy the pictures we took along the way.
Steve Lawson”
Thanks guys! Looking awesome out there!❄️❄️❄️
