Drummond Island Trail Report – Drummond Island Snow Report – 02/11

SNOWMOBILING FANS:
Updated: 2/11/2011

Base: 2 inches

Snowfall Past 24 hours: 0 inches

Last Grooming: 2/4/2011

Current Trail Conditions: Fair

Groomers Report:
Even though it has been colder lately last weeks the previous warm weather was not kind to the trails particularly on the east end. Some areas are fine but other areas are becoming extremely thin. We need more snow!

There are currently 4 ACTIVE logging areas scattered throughout the trail system. PLEASE ride with caution and watch for logging trucks!

INTERNATIONAL ICE BRIDGE TO CANADA: The Ice Bridge is OPEN and active! Customs officials are manning the Island offices and have posted regular hours. Before you cross make sure you have the appropriate ID paperwork.

CROSS COUNTRY SKIING FANS: All trails are OPEN! The Rainbow Trail system is groomed on a weekly basis. Base is thin in spots but trails are still fun!

SNOWSHOEING FANS: All trails are open for snowshoeing! Local volunteers have been out on the Heritage Trail system making improvements to the signage and clearing fallen branches. Don’t really need snowshoes at this time to enjoy this trail system. A good pair of snowboots will get you out-and-about just fine.

ICE SKATING FANS: The local rink is open and waiting! Grab your skates, a thermos of hot cocoa and head down to the Townhall. The ice is slick and fast!

Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 02/11

Winter Carnival – Thursday, February 10 at 9:00am – February 13 at 12:00pm – http://ow.ly/3UPB4

Supposed to warm up for the weekend. After taking in the Snow Statues you can enjoy the Bigfoot Snowshoe event, fish the Chassell Ice Fishing Derby and snowshoe the Keweenaw Shore Nature Sanctuary on Saturday and take the kids to the Barnelopet on Sunday. That’s besides the skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling that are always available. Complete details at the keweenaw.info Calendar.

The snowmobile trails from TwinLakes to CopperHarbor are open, and groomers are out working on them. Trails are reported to be in good to very good condition except for the High Rock trail which is in fair condition due to low snow.

Remember to watch out for the groomers when you’re out on the trails…….they have the right of way!!
There is logging on a short portion of Trail 133 between Gay and Lac La Belle.

The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, please, drive safely. The signs on the snowmobile trails are there for the riders’ safety. Please, DO NOT remove or destroy these signs.
