GOGEBIC RANGE TRAIL AUTHORITY Reports after a busy weekend all trails have been groomed and overall trails are in good to very good condition. Just a reminder to watch out for the water spot on 11N which you are able to get around, signs are posted Also on trails 11N and 160 closer to the lake the snow is marginal. LOGGING IS PLANNED OFF SOUTH BOUNDARY ROAD SO WATCH FOR SIGNS AND PLOWED AREAS. 11S is in good condition and again logging is planned for the remaining of the season closer to the Wisconsin boarder so watch for signs and use caution. Please remember the logging trucks have the right of way so when and if you see them please pull over….

LAKE GOGEBIC AREA GROOMERS report all groomers are out double grooming daily keeping the trails in good shape after a busy weekend. Groomers are reporting all trails are in good to very good condition, but watch corners, they may be icy and obey stop signs PLEASE!

U.P.THUNDER RIDERS OF WATERSMEET report all trails are being groomed daily, trails overall are in good to very good condition. Again watch for icy corners.

Keep in mind the groomers will be out day and night, so watch for them, and PLEASE pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them. Please use caution on corners in all areas they may be icy…

ABOUT THE ICE:
It’s time for our usual caution. There is no such thing as "safe ice" due to underwater currents. If you choose to go out, be sure you talk to locals where you intend to ride for specific information about the ice depth and other factors…be aware you will be riding at your own risk.

You can take a look at web cams throughout the area to check out the conditions for yourself. Find links on our website at westernup.info.

Here are a few gas station updates. The gas station in Paulding is closed so plan ahead for filling up. On the up side the gas station in Marenisco is now open.

On February 4th there will be a snowmobile radar run on Lake Gogebic in front of the Gogebic Lodge. There will be a 1000-foot plowed track – stock and modified classed(trophies)-8a.m. to 4p.m.-cost is $25.00 which includes 4 runs and a T Shirt. At 3 p.m. there will be a "bikini run"-free to participants-2012 Skidoo 600 snowmobile will be provided-money and trophy. For more info call Kent @ 906-842-3324 or email kentmcd454@gmail.com

Trail and Snow Report…..Snowing Hard Right Now! Monday Early Afternoon
by Heart Lake Resort on Monday, January 30, 2012 at 12:47pm

We are getting some pretty good snowfall right now. I would still rate the overall trail system in this area as mostly fair to good in the places where they are not in the open and protected but are improving by the hour because of today’s snow. The current temp is 21.9 degrees. The bad news is that it is forecasted to be rather warm tomorrow – we’ll have to see what that does. If you ever need more information weather you’re staying with us or not or even a place to stay, please feel free to give us a call. We are on the trail here at Heart Lake Resort Cottages here in the Gaylord/Grayling area. Thank You. John 989-732-5081

Trail Report: Jan 30th , 2012 @ 8:49 am

Gaylord groomers report there is an icy base on the trails. Temperatures have dropped back down to below freezing. Trails should be in ‘FAIR’ ~ ‘GOOD’ condition depending on the area. As always please check back here for updates.
