Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 01/02

Looks like more of the same with temps in the teens and snow showers in the forecast for the next few days. Temps for the weekend will be in the 20’s with lows in the single digits. We received 2.5 inches of snow yesterday so we will take every little bit we get. Few snow showers in the air today.

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority reports: Not much to report, trail 2, 8 and 160 have been groomed. Watch for icy spots and wet spots. Use caution on 160 there is a swamp which is not frozen so be careful….Trails 11s and 11n are not groomed we need more snow before groomers will go out to groom these trails. It is still early season riding we need more snow to get the trails in great shape. Be Patient!!!

The Lake Gogebic groomers
are out and reporting all trails are rolled expect some wet spots and early riding conditions. More snow is needed to get the trails in great shape.

The Watersmeet groomers have not gone out yet they need more snow.

All areas need more snow….keep in mind groomers can be out day or night so watch out for them and please pull over or slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by.

Please be careful on corners as you know several Michigan Trail signs have been discontinued. These signs are posted on our trail map. PLEASE BE SAFE!!!!

Newberry Trail Report – 01/02

Trail #9 to Pine StumpJoe reports a fair to good trail, except for the corners where the snow has been blown out by all of the sleds.

Trail #45 to the Falls has been groomed. Low lying areas are not froze yet and there is some water on the trail. John reports the trail is in Fair Condition

Trail #9/2 to Epoufette/Trout lake is in Fair Condition. Be carful just south of Rexton as there are rocks sticking up through the snow. We groomed to Epoufette, and to the power lines going to Trout Lake. There is not enough snow and the ground has not froze to allow us to go along the railroad Tracks.

The trails on private land are open. All of the signing is done, and there are a lot fewer signs this year, so BE CAREFUL. All chevrons to mark curves are gone.

THE NORTH STORE ON CO. RD. 407,WILL BE OPEN THIS YEAR.

The curfew for the Village of Newberry is 11:00 P.M. until 7:00 A.M.

FYI: There will not be gas at Rainbow Lodge as they are closed due to the Duck Lake fire. There is a gas pump logo on the trail map, but they will be CLOSED.
