Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 01/14

We received a dusting of snow over the weekend. For the next few days the daytime temps will be in the teens and low twenties with a 60% chance of snow on Wednesday.

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority
reports: Groomers have been taken off the trails until we get some snow. Expect bare spots and icy spots and poor conditions. We need more snow to get the trails in great shape. Be Patient!!!

The Lake Gogebic groomers reports: We have not had much snow to get our trails in shape. We rolled our trails earlier but with the lack of snow we are unable to go out. Expect icy corners and bare spots. Groomers are ready and waiting to go out.

The Watersmeet groomers have not gone out yet, they need more snow. There is very little to no base. They are biting at the bit to go out and groom.

All areas need more snow….keep in mind groomers can be out day or night so watch out for them and please pull over or slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by.

Please be careful on corners as you know several Michigan Trail signs have been discontinued. These signs are posted on our trail map. PLEASE BE SAFE!!!!

St. Ignace Trail Report – Straits Area Snowmobile Club – 01/14

Cold is back and sorely needed. 4 days of temps above freezing, and pushing 50d took a serious toll on what we have out there.

The base on the RR Grade is basically gone. All open areas, and mostly toast. The snow in the woods area has held up, mostly, and is now about 2″ of ice with a little stuff on top.

We are going to need a storm to get things back into shape for the season, the 1/2″ of lake effect that we got yesterday isn’t going to cut it. Forecast is for cold, and a little snow most days for awhile. We are going to need a good 6″ before I can send the groomers out again.
