Cadillac Area Trail Report – 03/04

Sunday, March 4, 2012 – The trails were busy with happy sledders yesterday–all of them reporting trees down and overhanging brush. The hitch on one of our drags broke yesterday. We’re hoping to have that fixed today and back on the trail. In the meantime, the tractor will be out there anyway clearing trees and brush along with the other groomers.

Yesterday was a wet, soggy day in many places so the trails took a beating fast. It was above freezing and there isn’t much a groomer can do in those temps so we didn’t try until evening. Today will be a better day as temps will remain below freezing and we should be able to start catching up.

It’s another beautiful day for a ride.

Snow accumulation: 15 inches *(in the forest–up to 24 inches)

Saturday, March 3, 2012

The snow gauge (right) wasn’t much good this morning until I drudged through what seemed like knee deep snow to brush it off. The gauge showed we picked up 7 inches of snow but I took my trusty yardstick with me and measured as I made my way to the gauge. I found anywhere from 14 to 19 inches. The snow is heavy and packy and will make for great snowmobiling and trail conditions. If you are riding today, watch for fallen trees and branches. The groomers are running and will get to them eventually but the snow is heavy and they can fall even after the groomer has gone through so be careful and expect the unexpected.

Any of you downstaters who made your way up here last night are having the ride of your lifes today. You can ride from anywhere, even the motels in town without a problem. It is freakin’ awesome. Again, ride safe and smart.

Snow accumulation: 7 inches*
