Lake Gogebic Trail Report – Walley Lodge – 01/19

Snow continues to build and it’s great to see! About 4-6″ of accumulated snow with 1-3″ anticipated for today and snow in the forecast all next week. Temps for the most part will be very cold – so pack your base layers! Groomers are expected to go out today conditions permitting. This is what we’ve been waiting for – it was great to look up in the dark sky last night and see those big, beautiful flakes falling from the heavens above! See you soon!

Use extreme caution on lake Gogebic! 4 miles down the lake from the Hoop is a major ice heave with about 10 ft across of open water. This heave spans all the way across the lake! USE CAUTION AND CARE!

FYI – the Bergland Mobil has closed, so plan your fueling accordingly.

Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 01/18

It finally looks like winter we are expected to get two to four inches of snow today. If it keeps on snowing the way it is right now we will have no problem getting the 4 inches they are calling for. Snow showers in the forecast for the next several days. Temps will be in mid 20’s Friday and Saturday, and single digits Sunday and Monday.

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority report the groomers have been taken off the trails until we get more snow. Expect bare spots and icy corners and poor conditions.

The Lake Gogebic groomers report: They have received approximately 4 inches of snow with snow in the forecast for the next week. Temps for the most part will be very cold. Groomers are expected to go out today conditions permitting. Expect icy corners and bare spots.

The Watersmeet groomers have not gone out yet, they need more snow. There is very little to no base. They are biting at the bit to go out and groom.

All areas need more snow….keep in mind groomers can be out day or night so watch out for them and please pull over or slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by.

Please be careful on corners as you know several Michigan Trail signs have been discontinued. These signs are posted on our trail map. PLEASE BE SAFE!!!!
