Now is the best time to be up riding our trails. It is eerily deserted in these parts. Guests left early this morning as they dreaded their trips home into Winter Storm Ion. Reservations for tonight and tomorrow got cancelled because no one wanted to drive north thru the storm.
This is the first night since mid December the trails have been so lonely and quiet. This is the week to come up and ride to enjoy the northern woods without the traffic.

We picked up some more snow the last couple of days. It’s hard to say how much because the wind has been blowing it around so much.

The snow guage is showing only an inch but I suspect there is a bit more than that. It sure has put a nice coating on things and caused lots of drifting. The trails remain in great shape with the groomers out there grooming their regular routes as needed. Our trail coordinator told me the other day that he can’t remember when the trails have been this nice this early in the year. According to the weather forecast, there is no reason they shouldn’t stay that way or get even better with additional snow.

Overall trail condition: Good to Excellent

33 Rd Staging Area–S of M-55–approx.. 3 miles west of Cadillac on M-55 (watch for signs)

Caberfae Staging Area–approx.. 12 miles west of Cadillac on M-55 (watch for signs)

Boon Staging Area–park in plowed area south of Boon Grocery

Note: The porta-a-johns were removed from our staging areas today as our contracts on them expired 3-15-13.
