The snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open. The groomers are out and working and the trails are in good to very good condtion. There are some fallen trees and branches so please be cautious. Remember to watch out for the groomers when you’re out on the trails, they have the right of way!!
Watch out for a temporary re-route on Trail 3, north of Mohawk because of some logging being done.
The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, please, drive safely. The signs on the snowmobile trails are there for the riders’ safety. Please, DO NOT remove or destroy these signs.
Please be aware that if you snowmobile on U.S. Coast Guard property you could face federal trespass charges.

The party’s over for the kids of Northern Michigan–all schools are finally open today. The frigid cold has eased up a bit but it’s still only about 8 degrees out. We’re expecting a high of 11 and some light snow. We had another 2 or so inches of snow fall last night and the wind blew it around. The roads are still snow-covered and slippery here; many side roads haven’t been plowed. The shoulders are covered with packed snow so riders will have no trouble getting on and off trails crossing roads. Tuesday is the groomers’ night of rest but they’ll be back out again tonight. Cold temps and plenty of snow to work with make trail conditions excellent again today. Light traffic will keep conditions excellent. Here’s hoping you have the day off! If you head out be careful at road crossings; the banks are so high most vehicles can’t see snowmobilers. To join or renew Grooming Club membership, send your email to info@indianriversnowmobiling.org or visit www.indianriversnowmobiling.org. Thanks to your support we’re building our groomer ‘barn’ and will soon have a new facility where we can store and work on the equipment. Construction is underway now at our location on US 27, just a stone’s throw north of the DNR Trailhead at White Road in Indian River!
