Indian River Trail Report – 01/16

Groomers were out again last night and the there’s a ton of snow out there. After we dug out of the 10″ storm of Tuesday night we had another 2″ of fluffy snow fall yesterday. Traffic is light but that will change as the holiday weekend begins. Expect the best conditions in the morning and fair riding in the afternoon (traffic will dictate). The temperature is a comfortable 20 degrees with a high of 28 forecasted. We’ve also got snow on the menu for today and tomorrow. The sky is gray now and there is a light wind. Everyone is looking forward to a great weekend of holiday riding. To join or renew Grooming Club membership, send your email to info@indianriversnowmobiling.org or visit www.indianriversnowmobiling.org. Thanks to your support we’re building our groomer ‘barn’ and will soon have a new facility where we can store and work on the equipment. Construction is underway now at our location on US 27, just a stone’s throw north of the DNR Trailhead at White Road in Indian River!

Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 01/16

The snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open. The groomers are out working on them and the trails are in very good condtion but watch out for some low hanging branches. Remember to watch out for the groomers when you’re out on the trails, they have the right of way!!

Trail 122 from Lake Linden to Gay is closed for logging. Gay can be accessed on Trail 124 or Trail 133 out of the Lac La Belle area.

There is a temporary re-route on Trail 3, north of Mohawk because of logging.

The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, please, drive safely. The signs on the snowmobile trails are there for the riders’ safety. Please, DO NOT remove or destroy these signs.

Please be aware that if you snowmobile on U.S. Coast Guard property you could face federal trespass charges.
