Cadillac Area Trail Report – Cadillac Trails – 01/24

Tuesday, January 21, 2012

We lost a lot of snow yesterday. We had 9 inches on the gauge before the rain and thaw. Rain set in late Sunday night leaving us with a disastrous outcome. Monday morning the snow on the gauge was down to 3.5 inches and everything was coated with ice. This morning , we found an inch and a half of snow on the ground and it’s snowing now. Our President is currently checking out the trails. As soon as I have his report, I will post it. Keep checking back.

Cadillac Area Trail Report – Cadillac Trails – 01/19

Thursday, January 19, 2012

Snow accumulation: 10 inches*–4′ overall

The snow gauge is showing a 2 inch snowfall overnight but that is misleading. The gauge is in a protected area. High winds have been blowing the snow around so it is accumulating in open areas. I was out this morning and found a consistent 4 inch accumulation in the seven mile drive I took on unplowed roads. Gosh, what a treat!

The groomers are out there today and hope you are too.

Snow accumulation: 8 inches*

The groomers are running again today doing what they can with what they have. They will be staying off the White Pine trail until there is a significant build up of snow.

We have a winter storm advisory in effect for this evening with a possibility of 2 to 5 inches arriving before noon Thursday.

Speaking of the White Pine trail, some of you may have already seen the signs on the White Pine Trail asking snowmobiles to stay off the trail unless there is atleast 4 inches of snow. The signs posted by the State Park staff read ‘Help protect our resource, please refrain from operating snowmobiles when less than four inches of snow cover the trail.’ We were assured by the State Park staff these signs were posted not as an enforcement tool but as an educational tool. The ‘four inch’ rule has been in effect in State Parks for years.
