Cadillac Area Trail Report – 02/28

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

Don’t think we have lost much snow to speak of since the last report. We’ve just had a lot of wind to blow it around and pack it down good. The trails in for forest are wonderful except for a couple of trouble spots mentioned before south of 10 Mile Road and the logging area near Poplar Creek on Trail 37. The in town trail took a beating this weekend and is bare in several spots making for poor riding conditions. Saturday the White Pine Trail was covered and reported in good riding condition. However, bare spots on the trail were noted from the highway on Monday. We are not grooming the White Pine or in-town trail at this time until we get more snow. The groomers in the forest are running daily.

Now for the approaching storm…we sure hope we get some serious snow and not the ice and rain that appears to be predicted. We’ll keep you informed.

Snow accumulation: 6 inches*

Staging areas: Our trail system has numerous staging areas for your convenience:

Tustin
Bristol
33 Rd (Off M55)
44 Rd (Off M115)
27 Rd (Off M55)
Caberfae(Off M55)

Have fun and ride safely.

Cadillac Area Trail Report – 02/25

Saturday, February 25, 2012

A couple inches of powder fell overnight leaving us with some of the best riding conditions we have had all season. Temperatures will remain in the 20’s today– that should hold the snow quite nicely for today’s riders. This extra snow will certainly enhance our eastern trail section and be ‘frosting on the cake’ for our forest trail network. Ride safely and don’t forget the ice base that is likely to be under everything.

We didn’t get the snow depth our neighbors to the south got but we are very excited about what we did get and are expected to get throughout the day. We picked up 3 to 4 inches overnight and are expected to get an additional 1 to 3 inches throughout the day. Temperature is hovering around freezing making the snow wet and packy. It’s a beautiful day in our neighborhood and if your aren’t snowmobiling, you should be–enjoy!

Picked up a little snow last night. Not enough to make a dent on the snow gauge but enough to make a light dusting over everything. We heard a pleasant announcement by the weather forecasters last night. They are hinting we may be headed for the first major snow storm of the season starting Sunday. By golly, that sure sends the goosebumps afire. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.

Speaking of keeping you posted: here’s another update from Al Green, our Trail Coordinator:

I groomed last night and the trails are a TEN where there is no bare dirt and those spots are very few. Do not try to go south of 10 Rd on #35 or #358. If you need gas, go to Boon or Caberfae Crossing. There was only 1 sled out last night, which means there are about 20 miles of groomed trails with no sled marks. The side trails and roads are also excellent. The trail into Coyote Crossing is also very good. There is one large bare spot on #37 where the loggers cut the trees this fall (between Popular Creek and 46 road. It is about 500′ long and no way around it due to all of the stumps. That is the only real bad spot north of 10 Rd.

As mentioned in yesterday’s post, there is no snow on the Cadillac West (in-town trail) and the White Pine Trail. Consider trailering to one the following Staging Area: 33 Rd, Caberfae, Boon.

Snow accumulation: 8.5 inches*

Staging areas: Our trail system has numerous staging areas for your convenience:

Tustin
Bristol
33 Rd (Off M55)
44 Rd (Off M115)
27 Rd (Off M55)
Caberfae(Off M55)

Have fun and ride safely.
