Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 02/12

FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 2/12

It’s a very chilly 6 degrees with a very sunny start to the day in downtown Frederic. Had 2 sleds in right off the bat that said it was a rough ride but they came in to get trail permits. I have seen a few other sleds buzzing around and over at the swamp this morning. No new snow to speak of since yesterday and this coming up weeks forcast isnt good with warm temps coming back….this winter is getting close to a wash out except for the people up in the u.p. that have been having a good time riding with real snowfall.

I saw a few sleds at the Frederic Inn yesterday but at the same time there were 4 side bys there……not the way it should look in the winter. I did however make it back down there last nite where Tammy fixed me up with a great blackend prime rib….that was the highlight of my day. Suprisingly there were 3 trailers at Days Inn and 11 trailers at the Ramada this morning and I imagine those guys all think the same thing that they arent waiting any more to ride. Thanks for checking in. Pete

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

FROM Great Lakes Weather & Climate >> 📡 Statewide radar loop through 10 AM today (11/9) shows our two distinct snowmakers in progress.
The first one is the synoptic (aka "system") snow associated with a low that is moving east through southern Ohio. The counterclockwise flow around the low is shown over Metro Detroit as moisture interacts with decreasing temps, leading to this morning's snowfall.
Over the U.P. and Lake Michigan, the north winds are ushering in the coldest air of the season, which activates lake effect snow and transitions to the second portion of this snow event. Counties in the corner of southwest lower Michigan, northern Indiana and Illinois are set to receive a firehose of lake effect over the next 24-36 hrs, resulting in accumulations that could push one foot.
Portions of northern lower Michigan and the Saginaw Bay region are also set to receive lake effect snowfall through this evening, with amounts of 3-6 inches possible, with isolated higher amounts. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #newberry #soo #gaylord #cadillac #traversecity #petoskey

Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 02/11

FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 2/11

Friday morning, 2 inches of new snow if you stretch it. I have been plowing this morning, mostly snow that the road grader left piled at the drives. Of course no where near the snow they said we were gonna get yesterday morning but I did just have a guy in from just a little west of here and he said they had about 5 inches. Just had a group of six sleds in and they are ready to ride so they are doing it. You have to make the best of what we have which still isnt ideal…You have to accept the hand your dealt……(I never have been good at cards). Had a couple other guys stop in that are on their way to Newberry to start out and are going to stay at the Superior Hotel in Grand Marais tonight. My favorite place to stay up there with Rick and Mary. I only wish I would be there too. Thats about it for today, lets see what happens later today and in the morning. Thanks for checking in. Pete
