Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 03/07

FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 3/7

Holy Cow , is winter back, after a severe meltdown this past weekend, with a lot of rain and waking up sunday morning to rain and wind along with 46 degrees it pretty much wiped things out. Here it is now monday morning at 11 and so far we have had about 4 inches of kind of a wet snow at 30 degrees outside. I have been plowing snow and lots of slushy water. I have not seen any sleds and I saw big puddles on what trails I passed on the way here this morning.

Pics below I took outside of Sledheads this morning including Lake Sledheads out back. Snow is still falling, hard to tell how long it will last. We havent had any decent riding in March in a few years so who knows for sure if it will make it back. I was closed all weekend here as conditions were so poor. Thats about it for now but I want to send a Happy Birthday shoutout to Clifford Mcclain down in Ohio……….Thanks for checking in. Pete

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

FROM Great Lakes Weather & Climate >> 📡 Statewide radar loop through 10 AM today (11/9) shows our two distinct snowmakers in progress.
The first one is the synoptic (aka "system") snow associated with a low that is moving east through southern Ohio. The counterclockwise flow around the low is shown over Metro Detroit as moisture interacts with decreasing temps, leading to this morning's snowfall.
Over the U.P. and Lake Michigan, the north winds are ushering in the coldest air of the season, which activates lake effect snow and transitions to the second portion of this snow event. Counties in the corner of southwest lower Michigan, northern Indiana and Illinois are set to receive a firehose of lake effect over the next 24-36 hrs, resulting in accumulations that could push one foot.
Portions of northern lower Michigan and the Saginaw Bay region are also set to receive lake effect snowfall through this evening, with amounts of 3-6 inches possible, with isolated higher amounts. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #newberry #soo #gaylord #cadillac #traversecity #petoskey

Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 03/03

FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 3/3

Good Morning from Lake Margrethe, its about 11 degrees out this morning. Here we are 3 days into March in whats left of the most dismal sled season in the 25 plus years that Sledheads of Frederic has been open. The U.P. was certainly the place to be riding this season and I believe it still is. The snow conditions around Frederic havent changed much since this past weekend. Still nice and white out there but icy underneath. The forcast for the next few days isnt anything that sounds positive either. There have been a few sleds out and about this week including the group of 4 guys that stopped in yesterday and they were going to try to ride up to the bridge. I told them to let me know if they made it. I do think it was possible thing to do yesterday. Barring a giant storm which of course is possible that there wont be much more riding around here this season. Pic below is the four guys before heading to the bridge and they had rode from 4 mile road to Frederic. On tuesday I saw the Roscommon Groomer making snow dust and grooming on the trail along I 75 from the Ramada to 4 mile road so that was a good site. Also one thing I found interesting on my trip to NYC a couple weeks ago is that most of the food delivery guys in NYC that deliver on their bicycles have gauntlets on their bikes. Look at the pic below. Thats all I have today, you know the same old Blah, Blah, Blah….Thanks for checking in. Pete
