FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 02/16

I like the sounds of the forcast, now if it only comes true, gonna paste todays forcast below this and leave it at that for todays update. Keep your carbides crossed. Pics below I took outside of Spikes yesterday. At least they were thinking positive. Thanks for checking in. Pete

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY this afternoon and tonight for the Lower Peninsula south of a line from Alpena to Manistee. Several inches of snow will make traveling slower than usual.

Snow moves back into the region today. It’ll be light and scattered in the eastern Upper Peninsula. But in the Lower Peninsula it will be widespread. The heavier snow totals for today and tonight will be from Alpena to Manistee and southward. In this area up to 8 inches of snow is possible. Temperatures have fallen. Highs today will be mostly in the 20s. A few towns will see 30 degrees. Wind will be noticeable. Not as strong as yesterday, but gusts to 25 mph will blow the snow around. It’ll come from the north or northeast.

Tonight…snow in the Lower…maybe a few light snow showers in the U.P. The wind gusting to 25 mph will blow it around and create visibility issues for drivers. Low temperatures will plummet. Lows will be from zero to 8 degrees in the U.P…and from 8 to 22 degrees in the Lower. With the wind, wind chills will be below zero at times.

Friday. Most of the snow is gone, but early in the day you could see an inch or two of additional snow near Lake Michigan. Lake effect will develop for a while. The sky in the U.P. will be mostly sunny. Call it mostly cloudy in the Lower, but some sun will break thru in the afternoon. Highs will range from 18 to 28 degrees. Wind 5 to 15 mph from the north or northwest.

Friday night the sky will clear…and it will be beautiful…but will be very cold. Temperatures will range from 10 to 22 degrees, but wind gusts to 30 mph will make it feel much colder.

Saturday…mostly cloudy. Highs mainly in the 30s. Wind 10 to 20 mph.

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

FROM Great Lakes Weather & Climate >> 📡 Statewide radar loop through 10 AM today (11/9) shows our two distinct snowmakers in progress.
The first one is the synoptic (aka "system") snow associated with a low that is moving east through southern Ohio. The counterclockwise flow around the low is shown over Metro Detroit as moisture interacts with decreasing temps, leading to this morning's snowfall.
Over the U.P. and Lake Michigan, the north winds are ushering in the coldest air of the season, which activates lake effect snow and transitions to the second portion of this snow event. Counties in the corner of southwest lower Michigan, northern Indiana and Illinois are set to receive a firehose of lake effect over the next 24-36 hrs, resulting in accumulations that could push one foot.
Portions of northern lower Michigan and the Saginaw Bay region are also set to receive lake effect snowfall through this evening, with amounts of 3-6 inches possible, with isolated higher amounts. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #newberry #soo #gaylord #cadillac #traversecity #petoskey

Frederic – Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 02/15

FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 02/15

A picture is worth? How much? It’s Wednesday about 11 a.m. in downtown Frederic, 45 degrees out and all the pics below I took on my way here this morning. It rained most of the night. On the bright side they are claiming we should be getting wet slushy snow and most likely will have to plow or shovel so I am breaking the plow truck back out just to think positive. As bad as it sounds 3 or 4 inches will bring some riders out this coming weekend if we really get the snow they are saying. So look over the pics below and just daydream. Thanks for checking in. Pete
