FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 02/18
Calm and quiet saturday morning in downtown Frederic. Its supposed to warm to upper 30s today, the lake effect from yesterday has settled and if I wouldnt have seen it myself I wouldnt have believed a groomer would be out but I did see the Gaylord groomer at the north end of Frederic on trail 7. Pic is below. WARNING,,,,if you do ride watch out for ice. There is alot of it under the snow and there was a sled accident on trail 7 yesterday where a lady hit a tree and broke her leg due to ice. I have heard of several people falling too so be careful. I went for a short ten mile ride on two tracks yesterday and I give it an o.k. but when I made it to trail 7 heading back into Frederic it was icy and rough. I like the two tracks much better. They are talking about a system snow hitting us after wednesday next week…..Lets see how that pans out. The first one is the synoptic (aka "system") snow associated with a low that is moving east through southern Ohio. The counterclockwise flow around the low is shown over Metro Detroit as moisture interacts with decreasing temps, leading to this morning's snowfall.
Over the U.P. and Lake Michigan, the north winds are ushering in the coldest air of the season, which activates lake effect snow and transitions to the second portion of this snow event. Counties in the corner of southwest lower Michigan, northern Indiana and Illinois are set to receive a firehose of lake effect over the next 24-36 hrs, resulting in accumulations that could push one foot.
Portions of northern lower Michigan and the Saginaw Bay region are also set to receive lake effect snowfall through this evening, with amounts of 3-6 inches possible, with isolated higher amounts. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #newberry #soo #gaylord #cadillac #traversecity #petoskey
