Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 01/23

This is what we have been waiting for. It’s 6″45 a.m. at Lake Margrethe this morning, The fresh snow on the ground didn’t get any deeper overnight but we had about 2 to 3 new inches of packy snow.

The weatherman says the majority of the new stuff is coming by this afternoon. I am getting ready to head out to plow right now so I just thought I would post something quickly. I will post some pics and another update this afternoon about 2 or 3 to see if the snow really hits us like they say it is going to.

Last night I listened to a radio show on Super Sled Online with an interview with Dave Dunigan and the old days of MSDRA. For those of you that were around for the hay day of ice and grass drag racing that show brought back many memories. I traveled the circuit with those guys and we had a great time everywhere we went. I know there are many of you out there reading this like Bif Steele who was mentioned many times last night.

Chris Riley did a great job producing that show and I was glad to hear him bring up the topic of “Snowmobile Saftey. At least 4 riders killed over this past weekend and everyone of them involved speed. Slow Down Everyone, we all love the sport but its only a split second and you can be DEAD……Please Ride Safely. Thanks for checking in. Pete

Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 01/22

Finally it looks like winter is coming at us. Weather forcast for next 7 days shows snow everyday. That’s what we want to see. Some of it is lake effect and some of it is a clipper. Take what we can get.

Temps today are a lot warmer with it being 18 degrees right now at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday. I like it. Never saw a sled yesterday but still had a few stop in on their way back from the u.p.

I wonder how the guys from Texas did that headed up to Rudyard yesterday as it was minus 46 up there on Monday. With the cold we have had that may make it good enough for their to be an ice bridge to both Mackinaw Island and Bois Blanc. I think that will make the islanders happy so they can get supplies easier. Still not a ride that I would not recommend without an islander as a guide. I was thinking about going to the u.p. today for a ride but am not going to leave because of the weather prediction.

Maybe I can ride home from here in the next couple of days. Hopefully tommorows update will finally say we have some new snow. The Darkside Adventures guys started off a little rough as they were delayed by road closures from to much snow. They are on the trail now and making tracks so that is good. Follow them along at http://www.darksideadventures.com Also just learned of another death that happened in Kalkaska county out off Military road. That puts it up to 9 deaths. Please Ride Safely and think of these 9 senseless deaths when you squeeze the throttle more than you should. Thanks for checking in. Pete
