Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 03/08

This is it. As good as it will probably get for the remainder of this dismal riding season. I just got my sled out and rode around the building, Not showing any dirt. (yet) Only another couple inches of new snow since yesterday even though we were under winter weather advisory. Currently 10 a.m. and 30 degrees. I had several calls from people wondering if they should come up and ride yesterday. Well I don’t recommend it I still think some will come out.

A guy just stopped in and is on his way back from the u.p. Like I said a couple weeks ago that if there was going to be anymore riding this season it would only be for a day or two and the first ones out in the snow will be the lucky ones.

The couple that headed out the other day was back after 7 miles. I am going for two tracks and Chubby Roger is on his way down here to go with me. I am going to put a sign up in the door that says back in a couple hours. I will see if we can get more than 7 miles in. I figure what the heck, I have worn duallys on my skis and they are already well worn and I have more slides here so we are gonna try it. Chubby Roger and I haven’t got to ride together for to many years so here is our chance. Just took the pics out front here of my sled. Thanks for checking in. Pete.

Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 03/01

One more month of riding. Isn’t that hard to believe that we still have 30 more days to enjoy the beautiful northern Michigan snowmobile trails. Luckily its a nice 32 degrees and cloudy outside but not a flake of snow anywhere. 40s predicted thru the rest of the week but wait it gets better with a 50s for Monday.

Yesterday I saw a motorcycle go by and I even got my bicycle out to ride down to the post office on it. See proof in picture below. Still riding going on in the u.p. at both strongs and seney and enough snow to put one more death on the chart for this season in the Soo.

I don’t know what is up with the DNR this year as they normally post the sled fatalities online. I haven’t been able to find any info at all this year. I can find the Wisconsin deaths which they are at 13 this season and from my own counting and the help of Ken I have the Michigan sled death count at around 8 or 9 that I have known about. None of this sled riding is worth going out and coming home dead for so please be careful if you get a chance to get out there. Thanks for checking in. Pete
