Jordan Valley Area Trail Report – 02/04

JORDAN VALLEY AREA UPDATE via Jordan Valley Trails Council >> 02/04

Another great day in the grooming world today! Thank you to Cecil for freezing his backside off all day changing a coolant line he unfortunately discovered at midnight last night that was purging fluid as he was grooming. Mike showed up for moral support and they were able to get it off and find a suitable replacement to get it back on the trail quickly. After getting a report of a tree down, Archie was able to get right out there and take care of the hazard up by the EJ clubhouse, thanks Archie! Thank you to our DNR contact Tom, he was able to deliver our downed tractor back to the snowmobile club today, it will make it much better for putting the new track on when it shows up.

Trails are shaping up very nice as of late! We’ve received some dense snow lately that has mixed well with the fluffy lake effect that’s fell on us all year. Hats off to our volunteers who have adjusted schedules and groomed as needed to ensure all our trails are getting groomed, while we are down 1 unit and at one point down 2 units, we couldn’t do it without you guys and gals! We’ll continue to groom all week building up for what will be another busy weekend. With our area being the best conditions in the NLP, traffic has been exceptionally high the last month. Thank you riders for bearing with us on trail conditions, everyone is all hands on deck trying to keep up everyday of the week.

Get out and enjoy the great trails of the state, have a safe and enjoyable ride!

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Final snowfall totals have been released from our blizzard of March 15th-17th, 2026 here in Michigan. Do note, some locations are approximated due to data gaps in the Upper Peninsula..... #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyFinal snowfall totals have been released from our blizzard of March 15th-17th, 2026 here in Michigan. Do note, some locations are approximated due to data gaps in the Upper Peninsula.

No doubt the forecast lived up to its insanity, with many locations getting over 40" of snow across the central Upper Peninsula, and 8-10 foot snow drifts to make things even more extreme. In terms of forecast verification, our forecast did hit the 80%+ accuracy threshold we strive for after each event. Our final verification was 83%, and most of the the misses were where the system shifted slightly south to give parts of the northern Lower Peninsula greater than 24", and parts of the western Upper Peninsula much less. Anything over 18" of snow is just "a lot" at this point anyways, so we aren't stressing too badly about the miss in the Lower Peninsula near the Mackinac Bridge. Lake effect zones in SW Michigan did verify, as text was featured under the forecast that a couple spots would see locally higher amounts.

Overall, this will be a storm we won't soon forget, which adds to the list of wild weather we've experienced in Michigan over the last two weeks. If you have any additional snowfall reports to add to the list that are not affected by drifting, drop them in the comments below here on X or Facebook. A new two-day record was also broken at the NWS office in Marquette of 36"+ with this blizzard, which is just one record smashed by this blizzard.

Jordan Valley Trail Report – 01/28

JORDAN VALLEY AREA UPDATE via Jordan Valley Trails Council >> 01/28

Happy Tuesday! Get out there and ride! Yesterday afternoon we received more lake effect snowfall with a lot of drifting.

First and foremost, big thank you to our groomer extraordinaire Mike, yesterday he was here and there which seemed to be everywhere, being in 3 different groomers in one day! Thanks for all you do Mike!!!! 👍🏼
It’s been a long week breaking and fixing machines. Thankfully with the help of some great DNR folks we were able to get the 6215R out of the middle of the trail. Now we are just waiting for funding and a track to get that back on the trail. Thanks to Kevin, Cecil and Frank for trying their best Sunday to get it out as well. The Pisten Bully has returned to the trail! Big thank you to Andy L. for coming through in short notice. When he asked when we needed it, I replied “3 days ago” and he said I’ll be here tomorrow. Groomer Cecil and Rich were there to run for parts and lend a needed hand in the arctic conditions and we appreciate their time as well. Overall the team stepped up and handled being down a machine, GREAT! Trails weren’t to our expectations but grooming hours and trails groomed had to be adjusted and we greatly appreciate all our drivers that have adjusted their schedules to accommodate grooming different trails and a few old faces that jumped in to help out! As we mentioned last week trail 766 through the pristine Jordan Valley is back open. The logging on trail 76 north of Elmira is still ongoing and they will be utilizing a portion of the trail this week for hauling, please be vigilant in that area.

Looking forward, we have a mid week warm up coming. The tentative plan is to groom through Wednesday night and then get back on the trails Friday as the conditions cool off. We’re working on a full schedule to round out the week and cover for the downed unit the best as possible with our other machines. By tomorrow we should be right where we need to be heading into the warm up. If your the early one on the trails the next couple days, be cautious of drifting in open areas. Trails overall are still in good condition, unfortunately there still are a few thin spots out there, we really need a nice shot of system snow to pack into the trails. The warmup will help tighten the snow on the trails but we may lose some depth as well. With our area being some of the best riding conditions in the NLP, there has been a huge increase in traffic.

Thank you all for riding our system, supporting the clubs and local businesses! Join a club, grab the groomer tracker app or donate to your favorite riding area organizations. Enjoy your ride!
Here are some pictures of our excitement this week
