January 5th, 2016 – Finally, the forecast is calling for more normal winter weather! Snow is in the forecast, starting Wednesday, for each day for the next 2 weeks (at this time). No big storms predicted at this time, but we know from experience how quickly that can change. Bitter cold temps coming by Sunday with only single digits for highs – this is very good as we need these temps to freeze up any wet areas on the trails. However, if you are in the area take precautions against frostbite and always ride with a buddy. Cross your fingers that this all means winter has finally arrived in big snow country. I will keep you posted with any updates on the weather and on the trails.

Bummer, the big snow that was expected to give us up to 10-inches showed up but only gave us about 1-inch of new snow. However, we are getting some significant cold temperatures, which we definitely need. We do still have about a foot of snow on the ground and the groomers have run 8 east and 1 north with drags on. They’ve been running over the other trails as well, just not with the drags on yet as conditions will not allow. Our drivers have been out cleaning up any hanging branches, for the 3rd or 4th time in some areas after the last heavy snowfall. Please, always ride with caution – looking out for other sledders, groomers or traffic where trails cross roadways. Remember, this is family time on the trails, so be especially safe riding.

Remember, you get to celebrate New Year’s Eve twice on Lake Gogebic with the two time zones making this possible. However, best to check with local businesses on ice conditions before heading down the lake – you may need to take the trails to get to your second New Years Eve celebration this year.
