Lake Gogebic Trail Report – 02/29

February 29th, 2016

About 6-inches of new snow over Sunday night and much colder temperatures mean we have been grooming since early Sunday morning.

We should be back to 3 working groomers again by this afternoon. The forecast through this week, with nighttime temps down as low as below zero mean trail conditions should be greatly improved.

It’s looking more and more like this may be the last week and upcoming weekend for snowmobiling this season with highs next week running into the 40’s and even 50 with rain showers. So head on up for one more ride of the season this week. I will keep an eye on our local weather forecast for you and keep you posted as to any changes.

VERY IMPORTANT -We want to remind all to be sure to exit the lake at the Bergland Dock – DO NOT RIDE BEYOND THIS POINT. We think some of you may have mistaken the cell tower with its red flashing light in the distance as a spot to ride to – which will take you right to the dam.

They may still be trucking logs out over a portion of Trail 102 and 13 South, so continue to watch out for logging trucks and always give them the right of way for your safety and for the privilege of riding on the logging company’s property.
Please ride safe!

That’s all for now from Carolyn at the Hoop. For additional information about the Lake Gogebic area please visit the chamber website at www.LakeGogebicArea.com

Lake Gogebic Trail Report – 02/28

February 28th, 2016

Wow – we made it through a very warm weekend with a LOT of traffic. Local temps were recorded at 51 degrees! On the 27th of February!!! Trails are not in good condition due to these factors. And, we’re down a groomer again. I seriously think we’ve been jinxed this year.

The good news is at least it is colder now and has been snowing since this morning with more snow in the forecast through tomorrow. We are grooming, but it is a battle at this point with a lot of damage done to the trails over this last weekend.

The temps look good through this next week until – yes, you guessed it – the weekend. We should be able to get through at least one more weekend of snowmobiling but beyond that, unless the forecast changes, it doesn’t look good. We’ll be watching the weather closely for you and will let you know as we go how it looks.
