Paradise Area Trail Report – 02/06
February 6, 2023
19 degrees this morning and cloudy. We`ve picked up an inch of snow here an there over the last few days. Sorry I haven`t given ya`ll an update since the 1st, I didn`t realize its been that long! I`ve been very busy now that the weather has cooperated.
There really isn`t anything new to report. The weather has been fantastic and so has the trails!! We are runnin the machines full time and they are runnin great! Every trail is in great shape. Or little comic groomer, Mike H., even came up with a new term for how good the trails are but I told him I still can`t print that.
I`m sure you`ve all seen the weather forecast for the next few days, it doesn`t look too promising with temps approaching the 40`s but the bright side is it looks like they will drop off at night into the 20`s and "they" called off the rain part. The trails might take a beating if the sun comes out cause the snow pack is unusually low but we`ll just have to wait and see. I`ll be on here more often to keep ya`ll informed.
Thats all I have for today. Keep checking back and I`ll keep you up to date on the weather situation.
Remember…..RIDE RIGHT……RIDE SAFE…..You are not the only one on the trail. ALSO, watch out for groomers. We have been hit a couple times this year. We run during the day and night!!!!

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA Tahquamenon Area Snowmobile Association >> So all of TASA trails were groomed last night except the spur back towards the Motel on 28 that’ll get done today but all the trails were done thanks enjoy and stay safe.. #newberry

No doubt the forecast lived up to its insanity, with many locations getting over 40" of snow across the central Upper Peninsula, and 8-10 foot snow drifts to make things even more extreme. In terms of forecast verification, our forecast did hit the 80%+ accuracy threshold we strive for after each event. Our final verification was 83%, and most of the the misses were where the system shifted slightly south to give parts of the northern Lower Peninsula greater than 24", and parts of the western Upper Peninsula much less. Anything over 18" of snow is just "a lot" at this point anyways, so we aren't stressing too badly about the miss in the Lower Peninsula near the Mackinac Bridge. Lake effect zones in SW Michigan did verify, as text was featured under the forecast that a couple spots would see locally higher amounts.
Overall, this will be a storm we won't soon forget, which adds to the list of wild weather we've experienced in Michigan over the last two weeks. If you have any additional snowfall reports to add to the list that are not affected by drifting, drop them in the comments below here on X or Facebook. A new two-day record was also broken at the NWS office in Marquette of 36"+ with this blizzard, which is just one record smashed by this blizzard.

Highs will be around 20. Tonight and Wednesday, a weak system brings a widespread 1 to 2 inches of snow, with lows in the single digits in the interior to 10s around the lakeshores. Highs Wednesday will be in the 30s. Trail update
Firsts thoughts are what the heck do we do??? Well at the moment we unhooked drag and running the John Deere track tractor just to try and break through. We received somewhere around 3ft so far where it hasn't blowed. There is 6 ft plus drifting in spots. The drifts are gonna get hard to. As much as I would like to say it's awesome out here it just isn't and will take several days to get somewhat of a trail. We are just getting started so there could be more surprises but we are trying!! For the next several days if you are coming up our trails are drifting and there is so much snow that it will take several trips to get smoothed out. We will update when things change.
