PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Paradise Area Night Riders – 01/08

5 degrees this morning under a clear sky. I have picked up about 2" of fresh snow in the last 24 hrs. here at my place. I need to start out with an apology for yesterdays report. I messed up the days we are runnin. We hit the high ground trails yesterday and taking today off for maintenance, sorry, so here we go……
Groomer Mike H. ran the Point trails #452 and #453 yesterday and called them good +. The thin spots are gettin better but he did skip the ridge along Doe Lake road cause thats still pretty thin, but still ridable, you`ll hit a lot of roots so be careful.
Groomer Keith ran the Pine Stump trail #8 and called that good with the thin spots gettin better also. The rest of yesterday report still holds.
With these colder temps I have high hopes we can start freezing in the wet areas so keep checking back.
All I have fer today.

TROUT LAKE - EASTERN U.P. UPDATE via The Rail House-Trout Lake MI >> Welp... we had to give it a shot but only made it a few miles before we turned around and headed back in. The wind makes it hard to tell exactly how much snow we have gotten in the last 24hrs but its pretty significant. Roads are NOT passable. Please don't try to go out until the county trucks are able to do a pass or 2. It'll take a couple days to unbury ourselves from this one. I thought a year Thanksgiving was bad. This is worse. Stay safe! #newberry #snowphotos

It is advised to remain in place as roads are not in good condition

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> 6:14 AM EST Radar Update
Widespread snow is beginning to taper off from west to east. Very heavy snow will continue across the central and east into the afternoon. Widespread wind gusts 35-45 mph are common this morning, with gusts 50-60 mph closer to Lake Superior contributing to near zero visibilities, and blowing and drifting snow.
In Marquette and Alger counties, M-28 between US-41 and M-94 is closed. Unless absolutely necessary, travel is strongly discouraged this morning. Stay safe! #miweather #munising #newberry

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> A high impact winter storm is set to impact the U.P. tonight through tomorrow. Blizzard conditions are expected to develop, resulting in areas near zero visibility, especially near Lake Superior where gusts upwards of 60 mph are likely.
Important update: Trends in storm track have resulted in a southeast shift of the heaviest snowfall axis. Areas of 1 to 2 feet will be common from the high terrain of the central UP eastward along and north of M-28.
Strong northerly winds may result in downed trees and power outages. Please take extreme caution if you must travel over the next 24 hours. Stay safe! Check in on your neighbors!
