HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE!!!!!!
12 degrees this morning and cloudy. I`ve picked up 4-5" of snow between yesterday and last night here at my place and "they" are calling for 3-6" more today! A big plus is that it looks like this weather pattern will stick around for at least another week! I`ve got lots of good news on the trails and just a tad of bad so lets get to it……..
First all the good…..We have been VERY busy since my last report. Last Tuesday`s run around the Point trails went very well. Quite a few downed trees but the boys got them all taken care of and the trail groomed up nice. We`ll rate it at really good! Groomer Keith ran to Da Stump Tuesday and said the drifting was "interesting" to say the least thru "Siberia". He did get it all knocked down and only got stuck 3 times!! Now for a little bit of bad news…..the loggers have got our section of trail #9 plowed down to dirt. This section runs from Pine Stump east to the east branch of the Two Heart river plus a little beyond, about 10 miles worth total. They also have a section of trail #8 just west of Crisp Point plowed down to dirt for about 4 miles. This is unfortunate but hey….they have to make a living too and I am not knocking them. They should be all done in a couple weeks. The rest of the trail is in great shape. That wraps up Tuesday….on to what went on yesterday……
Groomer Keith went back out on trail #8 to da stump to clean things up. Haven`t heard from him this morning yet but I`m sure everything went fine. We sent 2 machines out on trail #8 heading south. We skipped our infamous swamp and started at the river mouth. The trail turned out BEAUTIFUL except for one 100 yard spot on the south end of the power line. There is some open water and mud there and its kinda tough to get around but can be done. With the cold weather and snow predicted it should freeze up in a few days….just keep a heads up. What surprised me the most is the Federal Forest section froze up solid! We left the gates open so we`re good to go in there!!!
We are taking today off and will head to the Falls tomorrow and try to get that passable…..IT IS NOT PASSABLE at this time so don`t go around the CLOSED GATES. After the Falls trail we will head into the swamp south of town.
So there you have it….a complete run down of our system.

Trail update
Firsts thoughts are what the heck do we do??? Well at the moment we unhooked drag and running the John Deere track tractor just to try and break through. We received somewhere around 3ft so far where it hasn't blowed. There is 6 ft plus drifting in spots. The drifts are gonna get hard to. As much as I would like to say it's awesome out here it just isn't and will take several days to get somewhat of a trail. We are just getting started so there could be more surprises but we are trying!! For the next several days if you are coming up our trails are drifting and there is so much snow that it will take several trips to get smoothed out. We will update when things change. GRAND MARAIS AREA UPDATE via Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assoc. >> Trail update" WE HAVE SNOW!!! Unfortunately we are holding off grooming until the weather dies down and then long enough to get dug out!! I do not know how many inches of snowfall we have had with this current storm, but drifts are from 5 to 10 feet around my house and driveway!
I hope everyone is staying safe and indoors. It took about 35 minutes to dig out far enough for our dog to go out... and right back in!!! I put a shovel in the snow on top of where our generator is...in case power goes out and it don't start I will be able to find it. Stay safe, ride right, and for now, bench race!!!

Hard to predict the total so far , but I'd say 20" and blizzard warnings for another 18 hours. Definitely closed until further notice. If your needing to be out, but shouldn't be Paradise Rec Sports did post they were Open until 6 pm. Glad someone can accommodate for emergency sake. Wheelhouse Diner is also Open. I'd advice to stay off road so county plow trucks can do their job without risk of someone stuck on highway, which report big truck near Rivermouth stuck on M123 in snow drift. 14 degrees this morning and the blizzard is still going strong! Its been 24 hrs. straight and they are saying another 24 before it lets up. Its crazy out der folks! I`ve got drifts at least 6` high and I`ve got one door open enough to even get outa my house! I`ve lived in da yoop for almost 26 yrs. and can`t remember anything like this. As far as the trails go.....I think its gonna be another day or two before we can get out.....I`m actually thinking not until Wednesday.....but we WILL be out as soon as we can. The trails will probably be a blast right now for all you drift busters but you groomed trail riders will have to wait a couple days till we can get to it. Bout all I got for now. If you do head out for a ride today be mindful of possible blown down trees and crazy drifting and be safe!

Its Sunday afternoon, 5pm, and a down right blizzard out der. I don`t remember seeing a storm this bad in a long time. Thought I would jump on here real quick cause social media is going crazy thinking we are done grooming. This is far from the truth! We are done on the Falls trail #45 and the swamp on trail #8 just south of town cause that last warm up really put a hurtin on them. The warmer swamp water really started to flow cause of the melt and caused a lot of open spots. We WILL NOT risk swamping a machine! We are gonna wait out this blizzard and get back at it on all the other trails. This may not be until Tuesday or even Wednesday as this is supposed to last until Monday night or early Tuesday morning. We have to dig ourselves out too!!!! Sooooo....please be patient. I will jump on here tomorrow morning and give ya`ll an update.

Ice Storm Warnings have moved South to include Wexford, Missaukee, Oscoda, Alcona and Alpena Counties. Winter Weather Advisories now include Clare, Osceola Counties.
The warm line is farther South keeping higher totals North. Winds continue to pick up along with the snow tonight.
