SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 12/06

12/6 update!
Good evening! We are making more progress! Today, Lane and Dennis took the loooong way from the Soo to Kinross by way of trail 8, to 480, to 472. This is because the city trails and trail 49 to Kinross are a wet mess still.

Groomer Jay and I will be doing a small stretch of the city tomorrow just to check it out.

Please remember we are on the Groomer Tracker app so you can see where we’ve been.

Here’s Lane’s report from what I know was a very long day for these guys!

“Dennis and I made the trip to Kinross today. From the Soo to Raco, trail 8 is great. Trail 480 to the Spile Dam area turned out pretty good. There are a couple deep water holes but there is plenty of room to get around them, but use caution. We saw at least 12 sleds riding this trail while we were grooming. We went up to maple farms and then 472 to Kinross. Trails are good except the hazards of the water holes on 480. We removed a lot of trees and brush on the way.”

Thanks guys! We’ll keep updating as we get more open! I always welcome rider reports and pics too!

Another 8” of snow possible through tomorrow. Just need more cold and more time for the rest of our trails. ❄️❄️❄️

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Widespread snow will begin to spread west to east this morning while a heavier snowband looks to set up in the central UP this afternoon. Uncertainty still remains where this snowband will park, however, heavy snowfall rates will likely create difficult travel along US-41 from Delta to Marquette/Alger counties. Tonight, widespread snow transitions to lake effect snow for the north wind snowbelts.

Sault Ste. Marie Trail Report – 12/04

SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 12/04

12/4 update.
Not much new to share tonight. It snowed pretty much all day in the Soo, still holding around a little over 2’ here. No groomers were out today, but will be again tomorrow evening. Again, we are warning folks to avoid the city trails, as well as 49 from the Soo to Kinross. Those trails are wet and dangerous, and simply need more time. Nothing we can do but wait for more cold temps.
We have volunteers headed out to check trails on sleds tomorrow, specifically around the airport in Kinross and out west on 472 to 480 in the Spile Dam. We’ll report what they see when we hear back.

For now, trail 8 from the Soo to Brimley and 889 in Bay Mills are the only truly rideable trails in our area, and maybe around the airport in Kinross, but I need to verify that.

There are many forest service roads in the Raco and Strongs area that I bet are pretty fun right now. Of course, be safe and know where you’re riding is legal to do so if you do venture off trail. There are likely water holes and stumps, downed branches in those areas so use caution, as always.

We will keep updating as things progress. Have a great evening! 👍🏼❄️🥶
