Snow, baby, snow! We’re having an epic start to snowmobile season and the Gaylord area currently has over 40 inches, with more in the forecast!
The groomers have been running since trails opened on December 1st. They are currently in good shape and all trails should be open by noon today. Please be patient while groomers get our trails into excellent condition with all this fresh snow!
A few things to remember about groomers:
– Groomers are out there to help you have a better riding experience and always have the right of way. – Please move off the trail when groomers are coming and allow them to safely pass. – If you approach a groomer from behind, kindly wait for the operator to signal you to pass. – Grooming can take place at any time during the day or night. – Have fun and stay safe!

UPDATE – 11/24 via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> One week to go until the trails open…..fat chance of there being any snow , so my best guess is the wait will be on. To bad we dont have the problem they have in South Dakota where they have snow but trails dont open till the 15th of December. The best day of riding that I had last year was on November 28 when Big John and I got in a nice 60 mile ride after a nice dumping of snow that morning. Everyone always asks me what I think the season is going to be like and my standard answer is I will tell you in April. I need to get some time in at Sledheads and get the front room ready for the season as I tend to let it get a little messy during the summer when I am not open. I put the winter signage back up last week on a nice 60 degree day. I picked up trail permits this week too but I am not putting one on my sled till we have rideable snow. I did see both Kalkaska and Grayling groomers out doing trail maintenance in the past month or so. Thats about it for now. Thanks for checking in. Pete

Wow! Finally a year with rideable snow on December 1st. Sleds have been riding in all morning, first phone call came at 7:30 this morning and trailers are parked everywhere. I would guess another eight inches of snow over night and trying to keep up plowing is a trick. For those of you that have parked trailers at my storage lot I am not going to take any trailers at this time as I am already tight on room down there. Just check with me ahead of time to see if I can get some room down there. Parking out back behind my shop will be just daily and by donation. I would say we have to be about the 2 foot mark for the snow this week. Still the same story at Lake Margrethe by my house and I havent even dropped my blade yet at home. The snow is all north and west of Frederic. I cant even remember the last time we had snow on December 1. The snow is supposed to keep it up all week so I imagine next weekend will be really busy. Please remember to ride safely. This is the start of my 27th or 28th year in this place. Boy time flies when your having fun. Thanks for checking in. Pete all the pics below are from this morning in downtown Frederic.
