Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 03/04

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports – 3/04

W🤩W! It’s been a great weekend in the Keweenaw! The blue sky has been beautiful, but the warm temps and sun have definitely taken a toll on the road crossings and parking lots. We have one more day of warm temps before some fresh snowfall is forecasted! Trails have held up remarkably well despite the heavy traffic and warm temps. 👏 Groomer operators are really working their magic!
Tony Geffers shared his photos from riding and said, “Had a great time in the Copper Country with Regina this weekend. Friday we got up early and headed up to Copper Harbor and did 155 miles. We were 1st on the trail all the way up there. Didn’t start seeing any other sleds until about halfway back. Trails were some of the best I’ve seen all season! North of the bridge is where it’s at! On our way back we stopped by Wildlife Refuge Cabins and got to hang out a little with our friends Robert Henderson and Laura Lorali Henderson. We got to see Rob do a little hillclimb and sidehill. Went to lunch with them and had some great conversations and laughs. 1902 Tap and Grill was a great place for lunch. Super nice and friendly along with great food.

Last night we went up to Calumet to watch the start of the CopperDog, dog sled races. It was cool to see how big of an event it is.

Today we got up and did a 70 mile loop. The 1st half of the trip the trails were great. Toivola➡️trail 3➡️trail 13➡️

Greenland➡️Pat’s Motorsports. Once we left Pat’s at about 11am, trail 3 heading back towards Toivola, was probably one of the worst sections of 20 miles of trails… Literally awful moguls for 20 miles. I know it’s end of the season and warm weather, and that had a lot to do with the moguls, but once we got back to the trail 3 trail 13 split, they smoothed back out. Gotta say Lori Sleeman and David Sleeman did a great job last night grooming their section of trail. This is our last trip of the season. Can’t wait for next season already. Haven’t checked the total miles yet for the season but once I check, I’ll post it.”

Thanks so much for sharing Tony! We are so glad you enjoyed your trip!

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via The U.P. Superior Snowmobile Club – 3/03

Groomer Todd reporting from this mornings run:
Trail 13 West from Greenland to Rockland was groomed early this morning. My turn around is the trail 137 intersection. I also groomed trail 12 out of Greenland to the trail 3 intersection and then back to Greenland. Trail groomed up extremely well and I would rate it in great condition. No hazards or wet areas to report. Have a great Friday!

Groomer Kurt reporting:
I groomed all the way to Silver Mtn. Reserve, South Laird Road. Logging looks to be done.
This is a picture from the turnaround down by Silver River Reserve.
