The snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are officially open, but more snow is needed to groom. Some groomers are out checking and panning the trails. As soon as conditions improve the Keweenaw Trails Services will turn loose its fleet of groomers to get the trails in shape.
Until then, any trail usage should be done with extreme care until we have better snow coverage as there are rocks, stumps, branches and wet areas not covered by snow and hazars that have not been identified.
The protective mat on the Portage Lift Bridge between Houghton and Hancock has not been installed, so please drive carefully on the metal grating until the mat is installed…do NOT use the ice.
Please be aware that if you snowmobile on U.S. Coast Guard property you could face federal trespass charges.
The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, please, drive safely. The signs on the snowmobile trails are there for the riders safety. Please, DO NOT remove or destroy these signs.

It’s a gray, raining, foggy morning on the Keweenaw. Groomers will not be going out again until we get more snow or colder temperatures. Trails are soft and wet! Most cross country ski trails still have plenty of snow, but grooming has been much been suspended there too. Mont Ripley is closed today due to rain, will reopen tomorrow. If you must get out on any kind of trail, bring your wet weather gear! — Via Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula Page
