KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports….

It has been amazing conditions for riding Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula over the past couple of weeks! It’s snowing with a forecast that ranges with anywhere from 4-10 inches right now! All trails have been groomed in the last 24 hrs, with the exception of the spur to High Rock Bay.

Cullen Keath and crew were just up for their annual trip to ride the Keweenaw Snowmobile Club trails! A few in their crew rented their sleds from Copper Country Rentals again this year. They said it was a great experience renting from them! ( Copper Country rentals is conveniently located right on trail 17 in Calumet at The Trailside Lodge.

Cullen shared these photos and details about their trip, “This was our second annual trip to the Keweenaw Peninsula! It was an awesome 2 days of riding with 275 miles total!

The first day ride was from Calumet to Rockland, we had planned to go to Bergland, but there wasn’t enough time. We enjoyed the day of riding in the beautiful weather. We took a break at The Mosquito Inn!

The second day we rode from Calumet to Eagle Harbor. It was a beautiful view along the Lake Superior shoreline and of the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse. We then headed to Brockway, one of my favorite things to do on the snowmobile! We stopped to eat lunch at The Mariner North. The food is SO good and they have a GREAT staff!
From Copper Harbor, we rode out to High Rock Bay. The last part of trail 134 had a lot of moguls , but so worth it for the view of Lake Superior!

We left High Rock and headed on a long ride to the Gay Bar in Gay, Michigan. It was a great trail ride!
So grateful to all of the Groomer Operators that gave us such amazing conditions to ride! Thank you!”
We are so happy you enjoyed your annual trip to the Keweenaw! Thank you SO much for sharing your beautiful photos and videos with us Cullen!

If you would like real-time information on grooming operations, please download Groomer Tracker app and subscribe to the Keweenaw Snowmobile Keweenaw Snowmobile Club trails! There is a nominal fee of $10 and half of that goes straight to the club to help support the trail grooming!

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Western Up Trail Reports….

Getting hit with some significant snow right now here in the Western UP. Looks to me like it will give us between 10″-12″ before it’s said and done but that’s my prediction.

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> This is our last call snowfall outlook for FRIDAY ONLY, January 16th, 2026. Snow has begun across parts of the UP, and will begin for the rest of the state over the course of the next 12 hours.... #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyThis is our last call snowfall outlook for FRIDAY ONLY, January 16th, 2026. Snow has begun across parts of the UP, and will begin for the rest of the state over the course of the next 12 hours.

A clipper will bring a mixture of synoptic snow and lake effect snow for the entirety of Michigan. This is the first of multiple clippers between now and Monday. Lake effect areas may see totals into the 4-8" zone, with localized heavier totals possible along the Porcupine Mountains in the western UP. We DO have ample moisture on our atmospheric profiles for tomorrow, but the forcing is still suspect, so a solid blanket of 1-4" of snow, with isolated higher totals close to half a foot should occur by the end of our day Friday. The greatest chance at an area underachieving is in... guess what... southeast Michigan. Monroe and Lenawee counties specifically were in the T-1" zone at first call, but with a more-moist profile expected tomorrow, all locations (in an ideal world) should at least hit 1". We are also watching for the development of freezing drizzle mixing in, primarily in the Lower Peninsula as low-level temperatures favor this phenomena. Now, drizzle would hinder totals, but significantly increase travel issues as roads get coated with both the drizzle and the wet snow. We will have a freezing drizzle accumulation map out tomorrow morning.

Winds gusting 25-35 mph at times, primarily out of the west. Some snow squalls will mix in, which for those who don't remember, snow squalls exist to only cause headaches. These narrow bands of snow drop visibility from open skies to mere feet in the matter of seconds, which is never good, especially on fast-moving roadways. A snow squall can put down as much as a quick inch in 15-30 minutes at their peak intensity. Both morning and evening commutes will be impacted by snow or drizzle. Let's hope we don't light up the MDOT drive map with 25 accidents this time around, so please take your time. Give yourself that extra hour to travel, especially in instances of forced slow downs.

The snow is amazing and the Keweenaw Snowmobile Club does an amazing job taking care of their trails and Keweenaw Trail Reports, keeping us all updated! I put on 350 miles so far on the Keweenaw trails this weekend and I saw a lot of grooming operations and smooth trails! Huge thank you to the Groomer Operators !🤟”

Brent also said, “I want to give a shout out to a few of the awesome places we stopped also, Lac La Belle Lodge / Bear Belly Pit Stop super awesome place and awesome owners! Gay bar in Gay was really cool. Copper Harbor Fuel Stop is always a great fuel and convenience store stop – cool place. The The Mariner North and Eagle Harbor Inn for excellent food and drink! Slim’s Cafe in Mohawk has the best breakfast! Vansville Bar for fuel and an awesome view of the cliffs across the street! We stayed at the Super 8 in Houghton, along the canal and now we are still at Parkview – New Lodge and Grill for some more riding! Both of those lodging establishments are great places to stay! We stopped at so many wonderful places, it’s hard to mention them all! I’m thankful for all of the local businesses that make riding the Keweenaw even more enjoyable!”
