Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 02/20

The snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open. The groomers are out working on the the trails however with the high winds there is drifting and poor visibility. Trails have been in very good condition.

There is some logging being done on sections of trails 122 & 133 so please watch for the signs and be aware.

The CopperDog 150 sled dog race will be held on portions of the snowmobile trail system March 1 through March 3. Please use caution and take advantage of alternate routes.

The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, please, drive safely. The signs on the snowmobile trails are there for the riders’ safety. Please, DO NOT remove or destroy these signs.

Remember to watch out for the groomers and deer when you’re out on the trails…..they have the right of way!!

Please be aware that if you snowmobile on U.S. Coast Guard property you could face federal trespass charges.

Indian River Trail Report – 02/20

The forecast for 1′ of fresh snow yesterday was slightly off…We ended up with a very stormy day that brought us 3-4′ of fresh snow. Conditions went from light snow falling to blustery and snowy with every passing hour. By afternoon visibility was minimal and roads were in bad shape. Temperatures started around 36 and were down to 19 by late in the day. Snow was blowing and drifting all over the place. Of course, this is a snowmobilers’ paradise. Paradise it is on our trails today. The groomers will hit the trails tonight. The wind and snow has dropped off but temperatures are cold-in the low teens. So dress for the bitter cold and have a great ride.

Base: 4 inches

Snowfall Past 24 hours: 3 inches

Last Grooming: 2-18-13, Monday night

Current Trail Conditions: Excellent
