Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 12/05

Still the same out there, only a little bit of fluffy stuff the past couple of days. While what snow that we did have has setteled there has still been no one out there. A friend told me he rode 20 miles on tuesday and he is an off trail guy he said there werent even any tracks at all on the actual sled trail.

Forecast for this weekend doesnt look like anything is going to happen so here we are again at the hurry up and wait game.

Warning are online and tv last night for riders to be aware of downed trees especially in the u.p. where trees are down across the trails and have been covered up by snow. Kind of like getting clothes lined but way down low. I am starting trail reports for the local radio station in Grayling so if you are driving north they will be running them thruout the weekend. Tune in to 100.3 on your way north. Just took the pic below out the front door of the shop looking south…still nice and white but we need more. Thanks for checking in. Pete

Grayling Trail Report – Fay’s Motel – 12/05

Greetings Sledders,

I know I’m late getting this off the ground this year and all I can do is beg for forgiveness, well maybe not beg, it’s more like an ask. I’m hoping that as time passes my tardiness will be forgotten.
For those of you that are new to this, it is actually a trail report and I am getting around to the trail part.

My name is Keith and the lady standing behind me making sure that my grammar and punctuation are correct is Sandy. After all we want this thing done good.

Together we own Fay’s Motel located a mile and a half north of Grayling. We have an acre of parking out back for your tow vehicle and trailer. Park it and leave it, you can ride right from the motel and park your sled by your motel room door when you get back.

This is the year of the 20. Twenty years of owning the motel, 20 years of producing this report and this is the 20th year that I’ve been in the groomer. After 19 full seasons of grooming I have finally passed my probationary period and I’ve become fully vested in the elusive groomer’s pension. Retirement is just around the next corner.

Alright on to the trail conditions.

We got around 6" of heavy wet snow last Sunday. Not enough to start the base building process which is the bad news part. The good news part is that the ground is frozen and the snow is adhering right nicely, and the trails are snow covered. However, that doesn’t mean that you should run out and hook up the trailer just yet, unless of course you don’t mind banging off the rocks here and there or cutting through to the sand there and here.

That said or in this case written, we suggest you hold off until we get another shot of snow and we get the chance to start building a base.

Not sure when that will be because there’s not much in the forecast. But we are off to a good start nonetheless.

Next report when we start panning.

Ride Often and Please Be Safe,

Keith, Sandy and The Girls and Boys
