Sault Ste. Marie Trail Report – 01/30

SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 1/30

Groomer Jay and I just got back from a darn near perfect grooming run. We saw 1 sled in the nearly 5 hours we were out. This run normally takes about 6 hours. We have perfect temps for setting the trail and very minimal wind. It was lightly snowing all night. We only had to hop out a few times to remove brush and fix a few signs. The only other signs of life that we saw were a bunch of snowshoe hares.

Whoever gets on 49 first tomorrow between the Soo and Kinross is in for a treat. We were shocked that there were zero sled tracks on our fresh groom on our return trip.

Happy Sunday all! Enjoy!❄️❄️❄️

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 1/2/26
Good morning everyone! It’s been awhile since I was able to create a complete trail report with all that we’ve had going on, so here we go!
❄️Trail 8- good from the Soo to Brimley, and Brimley to Raco has greatly improved now that the drifts have been knocked down more. Still soft snow that will start packing down more with each run.
❄️ City Trails- part of 49, 449, 497, and the I500 courtesy trail- lots of drifting in the open areas, fair to good. Needs a groom to manage drifts, and we’ll get to it as soon as we can.
❄️ ‼️ Trail 49 - Soo to Kinross- rough from Devils Hill to 12 mile, and we left the groomer out of there the last few days to let it freeze in more. Passable by sled with some wet spots, so use caution. Continued cold and sleds packing it will make a big difference. 12 mile north to the Soo is in good shape. Please stay on the trail! There are water hazards under the snow off trail in several areas.
❄️49 south of M80 and the 494 loop- excellent. No issues here, other than maybe some drifts in open areas.
❄️472 out of Kinross to Tilson Rd- our first pass since the storm was made yesterday so it is much improved. Fair to good. We cannot groom past Tilson due to ongoing construction.
🚨 472 and 480 to the Raco gate- please see the pinned post. We cannot groom in here yet due to bridge construction. The Raco gate is closed.
❄️ 480 from the Spile Dam turnaround to the Raco Powerline ( trail 8 ) - excellent
❄️ Raco Powerline- good
❄️889 The Mission Hill Loop- good- all trees have been cleared and it groomed up nicely.
Ride safe everyone!

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 12/31
Happy New Years Eve!
Snow is ongoing in our area. I show around 3-4” new snow in the Soo so far, reports in Brimley of at least 7” new snow.
A word of caution- we do not like to send groomers out during the day, but sometimes we do not have a choice. Kenny and Jim will be headed out to tackle 889 in the Bay Mills area around noon today. There are many trees down and heavy drifting. It will undoubtedly be a long run for them, and the main goal is to get things opened up.
Pat is out early south of Kinross on 494. 472 west to Tilson should also be done today. As a reminder, we cannot groom past Tilson Rd on 472 due to construction equipment.
Please be on the lookout for the groomers, and if you’re able to move small branches safely, we appreciate the help!
Subscribe to Groomer Tracker to see where the groomers are in real time.
Thank you! #soo

Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 01/30

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports….

Review from rider Zach Fryer 12pm Sat: Very good to excellent conditions on trails 17 and 3 near Calumet. But, watch for HUGE moguls on the short connector trail between 17 and southbound 3 – the stretch that goes along the little lake – moguls over a foot high there, probably from drifting.

Thanks Zach!

Please also see previous post from Keweenaw Snowmobile Club – “🚨The Keweenaw Snowmobile Club currently has a grooming machine down in need of repairs. This machine will most likely be out of operation for the rest of the weekend. “

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Western Up Trail Reports….

Beautiful morning coming into Houghton/ Hancock this morning. It was an unusual ride from Atlantic Mine to Houghton this morning I only seen 4 sleds. That’s about a half hour ride which normally I’d see 40-50 sleds.
Trails are holding up great and the temps are staying below average.
