Groomer Report – 02/25

Trails are all in good to excellent shape, but the longer the time after a groom the the rougher they get. Groomers are out smoothing out the trails daily. Hopefully if you find a not so smooth section you found many more that were freshly groomed. Groomers run 24/7 on different sections. Trails are generally groomed once a day on weekends and everyother day during the week depending on traffic, temps, and breakdowns. There is over a foot of base out in Raco, the most snow we have had in years.

Sault Ste. Marie to Brimley, Trail #8 –

Base 6-10 inches -Trail is in Excellent to Good Condition. Go with the flow of traffic on the bridge in Brimley!

Brimley to Raco, Trail #8 –

Base 6-12 inches -Trail is in Excellent Condition. Make sure you go with the flow of traffic when crossing the bridge in Brimley or you will be ticketed!!!!!

Raco to Naomikong Trail #8 [where Paradise meets us], Trail #8 –

Base 8-15 inches – Trail is Exellent Condition. Lots of snow, waist deep if you get off the trail. It is groomed every other day with more on weekends depending on traffic.

Sault Ste. Marie City Trail, Trails #497, #449, parts of #8 & #49 –

Base 4-8 inches – Trail is in Good to Excellent Condition.

City curfew is from 1am – 6 am. Remember most City streets are open to traffic, 20 mph, stop at all intersections, and ride the right hand side of street not on side walks. Watch for closed streets that are posted, mainly around the hospital, university, and state trunk lines.

Sault Ste. Marie to Kinross, Trail #49 –

Base 5-10 inches – Trail is in Good to Excellent Condition. When the trail is running along roads make sure you go with the flow of traffic on the right side of the road.

Kinross loop and south to Pickford, parts of Trail #49, #494, #472

Base 4 – 9 inches – Trail is in Good to Excellent Condition. Less snow to the South East compared to Raco but still more then we have had in many years.

Kinross to Raco/Rudyard, Trail # #480 & #472

Base 4-10 inches – Trail is in Good to Excellent Condition. All wet areas frozen.

The Downtown Trail has not been groomed, but it is marked. The city hopes to set up the barrels on the trail this week if they don’t have to spend all week moving snow. It has been snowing so much they have been too busy moving snow.

Newberry Trail Report – Halfway Lake Resort – 02/28

Well, the snow gauge is no longer stuck at 32" it reads almost 34"! Not too bad considering it sits in an open filed off of the lake and we’ve had some mild days in the low 30’s. The base is great- hard and 18 plus inches. We have had 2-3" of heavy snow since last night. It has cooled down and the groomers have been out doing their thing. Temps look to remain cold through the weekend.

Guests are saying the most snow is found between here (north-west of Newberry) and west towards Grand Marais. They reported some snirt on trail 8 east of H-37 (Pine Stump) towards Paradise, mostly in corners, but overall a very good ride. Less snow and more snirt on 45 but still good.

431, 43, and the 8’s (see exception) were reported to be "phenomenal" yesterday. The evening ride on 8 from Grand Marais to Pine Stump was reported to have bumpy sections but it is most likely due to the daytime traffic.

Visit the snow depth chart to see that our area truly has the most snow! Paradise is reporting a lot of off trail riding in the clear cut Duck Lake Fire area. They have seen stump-snowmobile collisions. Ride safe, they guise themselves as drifts!
