Paradise Area Trail Report – Paradise Area Night Riders – 01/25

Groomed south today on trail eight. Of course I had to bybass the swamp south of town to the river but everything else was groomed including the town trail. The only thing south of Paradise not GROOMED today was the swamp. I was pretty surprised I thought I was going to have a long day but the trail was good.

The only issues I ran across was open water just south of the pine tree road which is about a mile south of the rivermouth it is about two foot wide and of course the bigger hole was south of the galloway bridge. Both are passible with some comon sense.

The federal forest was good along with the raco strectch south of Curley Lewis. I would call it fair to good but you still need to be careful with the warm weather. Hoping the forecast is right and its going to cool down to get the swamp back open. We are making progress on our third groomer and I am confident we will have it going shortly. But I just what to give a shout out to my PANR brothers(Mike Cook, Gerald Roach, Chris Saunders, Don Bitner, and L.D., who have kick ass during are struggles.

If everyone knew the hours spent to make the trails good for snowmobilers happy they would be shocked.(I’m speaking of maintenance and things people dont thing about) We know you guy’s/gal’s appreciate it because of your post and thank you for that and keep it up.

I just got a text message from Groomer Mike who is welding on drags at the groomer barn at 8:24 at night should speak for itself. Thanks for supportiing us!!!!!

Groomer Dave M.

Grayling Trail Report – Fay’s Motel – 01/25

Greetings Sledders,

Things aren’t looking so pretty good for this weekend. I took a road trip today to take a gander at all of our crossings and found that basically the trails north of Frederic still had some snow on them and as you travel to the south of Frederic the snow gets thinner to the point of turning to dirt when you get to M-72 and points south.

There is snow in the forecast for tonight and we are in an advisory area until 5 tomorrow morning. I’m doubting that this will be enough if it does happen due to the ground being very wet and the majority of the snow that does come will be snuffed out by the water.

Cold temps are in the forecast for this weekend and once the trails freeze I will send groomers to the north and to the east (the Lovells trail looks to be in decent shape) to get a better assessment of what is actually left. Generally there are two things that drive grooming activities, those being snowfall and traffic. If we don’t get the snow and there’s something left to work with and traffic dictates we will do what we can with what we’ve got. If that means going over the road to get to workable snow it won’t be a first time, it’s happened before.

This certainly gives new meaning to the phrase ‘January thaw’. Usually a day or two or maybe three, but half the month?

I’m calling it not-rideable to poor.

Good luck.
Ride Often and Please Be Safe,
Keith, Sandy and The Girls
