14 degrees this morning and snowing!!! We picked up 2-3 inches yesterday and another inch last night. The weather guessers are calling for a couple more here an there the next few days too.

Groomer Don ran the Point trails yesterday and called them fair to good.’ Need more snow’ he says. I ran the loop trails back and forth into town and the town trail then went to the Falls. Need more snow is an understatement here. There was a few really nasty spots on the Falls trail.

Got most of them fixed except one big hole that opened up….need more snow!!! I can call most of the trail good except that one spot which is POOR….almost impassible.

Got to talk to the boss this morning and see if we can run a detour around this hole. Nobody else ran….we are really down on help this season. There are only 5 of us busting our butts this year trying to keep up with 120 miles of trail and only 2 machines!!! Plus dealing with this crappy weather!!!

All I got fer today. Hopefully the snow keeps a coming and we can get the trails ready for next weekend. Keep checking back.

This is the Keweenaw Snowmobile Trail System Report for Friday, January 27, 2017.

Snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open and trails are in poor to fair condition with a base ranging from 12-24 inches. The groomers are out. There are water holes on trail #3 outside of Dollar Bar and Hungarian Falls. Between Canal Road and Old Mill Hill in Houghton there is very little snow cover and lots of water.. There has been a major washout on the South Freda trail so please use caution. The mat on the Portage Lift Bridge is down.

Trail 122 is closed for logging. You can still access the Dreamland trail from Lake Linden but DO NOT go beyond. You can take Trail 124 to get to Gay.

Remember when you’re out on the trails to watch out for the groomers. They have the right away. Use caution around logging areas.

The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, drive safely. The signs on the trails are there for riders’ safety so please DO NOT remove or destroy them.
