Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 01/27

Nothing new really since yesterday, light snow continued to fall most of the day yesterday but didn’t amount to hardly anything and there was no new snow overnight.

It’s currently 29 degrees in Frederic. There were some sleds out and about yesterday but even though everything is nice and white here I would still trails at poor and if I stretch it a bit between good and bad spots I might say fair.

I have definetly seen where we have had worse than this. That being said I would imagine there will be light traffic this weekend.

I checked both Ramada and Days INn this morning and only 1 trailer between the two of them. I talked to Grayling Groomers and he said to many puddles and we need some freezing to get them out there. I didn’t even take pictures this morning as the trails look the same as yesterday so to mix it up todays pics are of the new Klotz candles I got in yesterday. Smells just like Klotz when you burn them. They also sent me a bunch of decals so if you want a free Klotz decal stop in and ask. I just called Patti at the Clarke Motel in Strongs to see if anything happened snow wise up there overnight and the answer was nothing happened. She said they are full with sleds right now and the riding is passable but they are still recovering from their meltdown. Remember too if you know anyone looking to buy a motel in the u.p. I do have the Clarke Motel listed for sale. If you want a cool business and entertainment complex that is the place. Sledders in the winter and Bikers in the summer. I just had a group of sleds ride in that came from Gaylord and they said last night they passed the groomer heading north towards gaylord on the 7 trail. They said it was a good ride back down this morning. Still with the small amount out there that snow will get chewed up fast. Sorry I cant give you a better report. Thanks for checking in. Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 01/27

Lake Gogebic Webcam

Lake Gogebic Webcam

Our trails overall need more snow. The forecast for this coming week is temps in the 20’s but not a whole lot of snow.

Gogebic Range Trail Authority Report

Overall conditions are poor. Trails have not been groomed in a week due to temperatures.
Our trails will require a lot of rework to get them back in shape. We will keep you posted.

Lake Gogebic Area Groomers Report

It is finally getting colder and we have some snow in the forecast an inch here and there. Our overall condition of the trails is poor. The groomers are good to go and have started heading out where possible. Trail 102 where the water problem was, now has water running down the trail, but our drivers said you can get around it without getting wet. Use caution on this trail and watch for the water. Trail 8 west is looking very wet-early season conditions. Please do not try and ride the ditch along this stretch as you will end up in more water. Best to try to avoid this trail for right now. Just keep in mind that there will be wet areas reopened up on almost all trails so keep speeds down and watch for changing conditions.

Streams, rivers, and swampy areas are not safe at this time, please avoid.

U.P. Thunder Riders of Watersmeet Trail Report

Conditions are fair/poor. It is rideable but it’s like the good, the bad and the ugly out there. You will encounter icy corners, some dirt spots, and wet areas but you should be able to get around them pretty easy. You will also encounter miles of beautiful snow covered trails so it is a mixed bag. Grooming is suspended at this time but it won’t take much to get back out on the trails.

Trail 3 North is fair

Trail 3 South to WI is fair/poor

Trail 2 is fair/poor

Trail 13 South is fair/poor.
Hang in there. Please stay on marked trails. Riding on unmarked trails can result in the club losing easement for that trail and can possibly get yourself a ticket.
