Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 12/30

You couldn’t ask for better today. I had about 4 fresh inches at Lake Margrethe and there was only maybe an inch in grayling and about 2 new inches in Fredreic. Still nice and cold which is great. 14 degrees here at 10:30 a.m. in the epicenter of the snowmobiling universe, beautiful downtown Frederic. Sled traffic was heaviest so far this season for yesterday and its been busy in here since I got here at 8:30. I was checking the motels this morning and there were 6 trailers at the Days Inn and 40 at the Ramada. As I was checking trailers at the Ramada some guys flagged me down and asked if I had trail permits and of course I said yes, so I sold 8 trail permits to those guys in the parking lot. That was a new one. I have been meaning to say this for a few days and it would be a good idea to take a picture of your trail permit on your sled so if it happens to blow off you have something to show if you get stopped. Kristina, Dave, & Preston were in here yesterday morning and then stopped by last night after their return trip from riding up to the bridge. That makes the first riders I have talked to that rode up to the bridge. They went up thru Cheboygan and then returned thru Alanson. With all the cold this year I would imagine there will be an ice bridge to both Mackinaw Island and Bois Blanc Island but that is most likely a ways off yet. There hasnt been any ice bridges in a few years so that will be nice if it does happen. Had dinner at the Frederic Inn last night and that was a good chunk of prime rib plus Kenny was good enough to buy me a beer…..cant ask for better than that. The pics of the sleds with the neon were outside the Frederic last night. Thanks for checking in. Pete

Ontonagon Trail Report – Scott’s Superior Inn – 12/30

FINALLY! we got all our groomers running thanks to the Volunteers that braved the bitter cold to make this happen, no club should have the bad luck we had this past week but hopefully that’s behind us! We groomed in all directions last night, by all accounts trails are looking really good, we have tons of snow to work with now, and 99% of the water is froze, only wet spot reported is east of trail#137, so watch for that. Calling for heavy snow this weekend and we already got 3-4′ of fresh snow last night. Thank you for all your patience this past week, we know our trails got really rough, but hopefully we have better luck the rest of the season. Here at Scott’s Superior Inn and Cabins we still have lots of openings after the first of the year, especially the first 2 weeks, we are located right on trail#12 , and just a mile from food and gas . 10% discount for Sunday through Thursday .Stay where the groomer lives!!
